Job Summary:

Our Estimator Intern is responsible for assisting the estimating team in the preparation of all estimates/quotations required for projects. Specifically, the position will assist the estimator with quantifying the various elements of millwork on projects being pursued. Additional duties may involve the evaluation of specifications, drawings, and other documentation to establish the estimated costs of projects. This position will assist in the preparation and disbursement of Requests for Quotation (RFQ) and Request for Information (RFI) and other document management as assigned. The goal is to provide the customer with the product they are pursuing in the most cost-effective way, thereby increasing sales and profits while reducing errors.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist in the preparation of estimates utilizing current estimating software and practices
  • Assist in the evaluation of the specification, drawings, bid request, and other documentation to determine the estimated cost
  • Complete products take-offs by reviewing bid documents
  • Obtain vendor quotations and review for accuracy and compliance to project requirements
  • Assist in the completion of the bid recap for each project to be reviewed with the sales team
  • Assist in the completion of the quotation for each project to be reviewed with the sales team
  • Document all approved and non-approved suggestions for incorporation into an estimate
  • Participate in project team meetings and coordinate assignments as determined during the meeting
  • Attend internal/external training opportunities (some overnight travel is required)
  • Develop necessary internal and external relationships to successfully manage projects to meet or exceed customer expectations
  • Work with the management team to develop programs for improving/enhancing processes
  • Other duties as assigned

  • To successfully perform this job the employee should possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills, be detail-oriented and conscientious and be self-motivated.
  • The employee must also have the ability to foster positive team relationships with vendors and fellow employees, learn the specification and technical details of the products we distribute as well as those of our competition.
  • Use professionalism and ethical judgment in all areas of the position. Such qualifications would normally be found in an individual with a bachelor’s degree in a related field and or equivalent related work experience.
