About this position
NCUS TEC is seeking experienced Fiber Optics / ICT Instructors to deliver high-quality, industry-aligned training for adult learners pursuing careers in fiber optics and telecommunications. This instructor will teach hands-on and theory-based coursework aligned with BICSI Installer 1 preparing students for industry certification and immediate employment.
This role supports NCUS TEC’s mission to build workforce-ready talent through employer-driven, hands-on education.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop content-related and appropriate instruction based on national, state and local curriculum through a combination of classroom and laboratory/ Hands-on experiences.
- Teach fundamental principles of ICT technology, including copper, coax, and fiber installation, cable termination, fusion splicing, and using ICT testing equipment to troubleshoot transmission lines.
- Develop and execute lesson plans leading toward student achievement of competencies in ICT instruction and provide a classroom environment promoting active learning in the subject area.
- Maintain inventory and repair records and ensure the safe and proper operation and maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Remain informed of new trends, methods, materials, tools, and equipment in the ICT industry. Develop and recommend new courses/programs.
EDUCATION:
Fiber Optic Association (FOA) Certified Fiber Optic Technician, or BICSI Basic Installer Certified, or be committed to participating in the training and passing both hands on and written certification.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 3–5 years of industry experience in Fiber Optics / Telecommunications
Teaching / Training experience preferred.
INDUSTRY KNOWLEDGE:
- Communication systems – copper, fiber and wireless fiber optic systems, network cabling, design, termination, splicing, testing, fiber optic installation.
Strong knowledge of:
- Copper / Fiber installation and termination
- Fusion splicing and testing (OTDR, power meter)
- Industry standards and best practices
Ability to teach adult learners with diverse backgrounds
Strong communication and organizational skills
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Physical ability to provide instruction in ICT related fields: copper, fiber optics, and cabling.
- Ability to safely operate equipment and monitor student safety which involves reaching in any direction, performing repetitive motions, and performing two-handed activities.
Ability to work some evenings and weekends based on student needs.
