Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Underwriter to partner with our loan origination staff in the creation of high quality, insurable mortgage loans. The Senior Underwriter will evaluate collateral and credit packages for mortgage loans covering all levels of complexity, including manually underwritten files. The ability to make, support and explain, verbally and in writing, sound credit decisions is essential to the position. In addition to underwriting files, the Senior Underwriter will be a key resource for Vellum Mortgage loan officers and will play a significant role in the future growth and direction of Vellum Mortgage.


Position Requirements

  • Experience: 
  • Frontline underwriting 
  • DE and/or SAR
  • Manual underwriting 
  • Education: High School Diploma
    • Work Condition: 
  • Remote, Hybrid (Dependent upon candidate's location)
  • Full-time with OT as applicable

  • Responsibilities:
  • Underwrite FHA, VA, FNMA, FHLMC, USDA, VHDA, MD-CDA, Non-conforming, and Vellum Portfolio Products within credit and quality standards.
  • Underwrite a minimum of 60 units per month. Maintain a daily workload as needed to ensure prompt turnaround time as dictated by management.
  • Function as a technical resource to Loan Officers and Loan Managers.
  • Enter complete and accurate data in systems to ensure data integrity.
  • Support team members to identify potential solutions/alternatives for complex loan files.
  • Maintain knowledge of underwriting guidelines and stay current with department requirements.
  • Provide prompt, quality service to the origination team in a friendly and professional manner, supporting the inclusive, positive Vellum Mortgage culture.
