Yard Jockey
TranSouth Logistics specializes in trucking, deliveries, and warehousing. Our distribution centers are located throughout South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida.
TranSouth Logistics in Dalton, GA is seeking a Yard Jockey.
This position is Monday through Friday 6:45AM-4:30PM, occasional weekend work on a volunteer basis, for extra pay.
Must have a valid Class A CDL to support daily yard operations and assist with local deliveries as needed. This dual-role position ensures optimal trailer flow within our yard and provides flexible transportation coverage for short-haul routes to meet service level demands.
Key Responsibilities:
Yard Operations (Primary – 90%):
• Move trailers between dock doors, staging areas, and parking spots in a fast-paced yard environment.
• Maintain an organized yard layout to optimize trailer access and outbound/inbound flow.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of equipment.
• Communicate with dispatchers, warehouse personnel, and gate security to coordinate trailer movements.
• Track and report trailer assignments using yard management software or driver logs.
• Support yard safety initiatives and report any hazards, damages, or operational issues.
Delivery Support (As Needed – 10%):
• Operate Class A tractor-trailers to complete short-haul or same-day local deliveries within a defined radius.
• Load, transport, and unload freight while ensuring timely delivery and excellent customer service.
• Follow all DOT regulations and company safety standards on the road.

Qualifications:
- Valid CDL-A license with a clean MVR.
- 1+ years of tractor-trailer experience preferred; yard jockey or hostler experience highly desirable.
- Must pass a background check and DOT drug and alcohol test.
- Skilled at driving large vehicles
- Comfortable maneuvering, parking and backing a tractor-trailer.
- Alert, focused, and detail oriented.
- Proficient using GPS and E-log systems.
- Disciplined, dependable, and resourceful.
Schedule:
- Full-time | Shift-based | Overtime opportunities available.
