JOB SUMMARY:

The Assistant Parenting Coordinator supports the implementation and delivery of parenting education and visitation programs for incarcerated individuals within the Department of Corrections. This role works under the supervision of the Parenting Coordinator to assist in developing, facilitating, and evaluating parenting curricula and visitation-based programming that promote healthy family relationships, child development, and successful reintegration. 


WORK SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

  • This is a full-time, 35 hours per week position.
  • Due to the nature and responsibility of this work, this individual maintains a flexible schedule, which may go beyond a regular workweek. 
  • May be required to work at any CCAP location.  
Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Education, Psychology, or related field, preferred.
  • Experience working with justice-involved individuals or in correctional, social service, or educational settings is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with parenting education programs and child development principles.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and group facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work in a correctional environment and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to manage documentation efficiently.
  • Background check and Department of Corrections clearance required.
  • Provide/maintain all required immunizations and/or vaccinations


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assisting the RIDOC Parenting Coordinator with managing and providing individual support services to incarcerated parents and their children, and the care givers of their children.
  • Under direction and supervision of RIDOC Parenting Coordinator, interact on behalf of RIDOC with RI and other similar out-of-state agencies such as DCYF, Family Court, Office of Child Support Services, etc.
  • Manage and monitor the delivery of parenting classes and workshops for incarcerated parents, including creating class rosters and group schedules alongside Coordinator.
  • Support the development and delivery of evidence-based parenting curriculum tailored to the correctional population. 
  • Help coordinate family visitation initiatives and events that strengthen parent-child bonds.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential program records, attendance logs, and participant progress notes and all data in RIDOC’s Transition from Prison to Community Data System (TPCDS).
  • Collaborate with facility staff, case managers, mental health providers, and community organizations to support family-centered programming.
  • Provide support in evaluating program effectiveness and collecting participant feedback.
  • Monitor participants’ progress and provide reports or updates to the Parenting Coordinator.
  • Assist with outreach and communication to families, caregivers, and community partners as appropriate.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all facility policies, procedures, and security protocols.
