About Valor Preparatory Academy

Valor Preparatory Academy is a student-centered learning community committed to academic growth, character development, and inclusive excellence. We serve a diverse population of learners and believe every student deserves access to high-quality instruction, individualized support, and a safe, welcoming environment where they can thrive.

Our educators and staff work collaboratively to meet students where they are and help them build the skills, confidence, and independence needed for lifelong success. At Valor Preparatory Academy, you’ll find a mission-driven team dedicated to supporting the whole child and fostering a culture of respect, belonging, and continuous growth.

The Team You Will Join

You’ll be part of the Special Education team, working closely with certified Special Education teachers, general education teachers, and school staff to support students with diverse learning needs. This team is responsible for implementing individualized supports and creating inclusive classroom environments that help all students access instruction and participate fully in school life.

The team culture is collaborative, supportive, and student-centered. You’ll have opportunities to build strong relationships with students and educators, contribute to inclusive practices, and play a meaningful role in helping students develop independence and confidence.

The Difference You Will Make

In this role, your work will directly impact students by providing individualized support that enables them to access learning, build skills, and participate successfully in the classroom and school community.

You’ll help implement instructional plans, reinforce learning strategies, and support students’ academic, behavioral, and social development. Your presence, encouragement, and consistency will help create a safe and inclusive environment where students feel supported and capable.

A Typical Day Looks Like

While no two days are exactly the same, you can expect to:

  • Provide one-on-one or small-group instructional support under the direction of a certified Special Education teacher
  • Assist students with academic tasks, classroom activities, and learning stations
  • Support implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), accommodations, and modifications
  • Help students with organization, transitions, and daily routines
  • Observe and document student progress and behavior and share insights with teachers
  • Prepare classroom materials and maintain a safe, clean, and organized learning environment
  • Use instructional aids and adaptive tools to support student independence
  • Promote inclusion and positive social interactions among students
  • Support school activities such as clubs or enrichment programs
  • Collaborate with educators and staff to support student success

This role balances direct student support, classroom assistance, and collaboration and is well-suited for someone who enjoys working closely with students and contributing to an inclusive learning environment.

We’re looking for someone who brings:

  • A strong commitment to supporting students with diverse learning needs
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative school team
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Patience, empathy, and positive behavior support approaches
  • Ability to follow instructional guidance and implement learning supports
  • Professionalism when interacting with students, families, and staff
  • Associates of Arts or equivalent or approved Paraprofessional Certification assessment

Bonus points if you also have:

  • Experience supporting students with special needs or in inclusive classrooms
  • Familiarity with IEP implementation or accommodations/modifications
  • Experience in school, childcare, or youth development settings
