Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Bilingual (English Spanish) Paralegal to provide immigration legal orientations, screenings, and Know Your Rights workshops to residents of Midway’s Sanctuary Hotel. The paralegal will provide services under the supervision of the program director and consulting attorneys.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and screen shelter residents for immigration needs. Facilitate immigration workshops for residents of Midway shelter
  • assist eligible Sanctuary Hotel residents in filing immigration legal applications, including but not limited to change of address, employment authorization documents (EADs), asylum and drafting motions to change venue under the supervision of attorneys.
  • Assist with the preparation and updating of presentations, templates, and other materials needed by the program.
  • distribute information for legal service providers to all attendees and make referrals as possible.
  • Conduct an Immigration 101 training for Midway case managers.
  • Assist shelter case managers to collect the documents needed for help center appointments or pro se legal clinics and get ready for consultation with the immigration attorneys.
  • Maintain data and information as needed for the recording and reporting of services provided.
  • Convene with Midway administrators/consultants and attorneys for supervision and to discuss specific client issues.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings
  • Attend relevant meetings and trainings by organizations such as LSSNY, the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, the Immigration Court, and others as identified by Midway.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications, Education and Experience

  • Fluency in Spanish required.
  • At least one year of experience in immigration law required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to engage with individuals from all walks of life.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Critical assessment and analysis skills.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, multi-task, determine priorities, and work independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.


Salary Information

$33.0 - $36.0 Annual Salary
