About this position
· Administers care, treatment and medication to residents
· Monitors and records residents’ medical/vital signs;
· Trains and provides direction for appropriate staff in basic bedside nursing care
· Assists with transportation of residents as needed
· Administers emergency care to residents as needed
· Draws blood and collects lab specimens as ordered by physician
· Orders medications and supplies
· Communicates pertinent information to physicians and lead nurse/nurse supervisor
· Monitors residents' nutritional status and intake
· Administers tube feedings
· Implements immediate procedures to effectively deal with aggressive or agitated residents
· Prepares reports as required
· Assumes duties of charge nurse as required
· Provides supervisory duties and in-service training as required
Requirements:· Knowledge of the principles and practices of nursing and skill in applying same
· Knowledge of emergency transference procedures
· Knowledge of pharmacology as applied to preparing and distributing medications
· Ability to meet the special needs of elderly and disabled residents
· Ability to interact with residents and fellow staff members in a pleasant manner
· Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports
· Ability to train and supervise personnel
· While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
· This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing all day.
· The employee must frequently lift or move objects and patients/residents weighing over 50 pounds.
· Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
