Systems Administrator - Journeyman
Primary Location: Quantico, VA

Job Summary
We are seeking a Systems Administrator – Journeyman to support the sustainment and optimization of enterprise IT infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments. This role focuses on system maintenance, patching, and performance tuning while ensuring compliance with security and operational standards. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience with Linux/Windows systems, cloud platforms, and secure system administration practices in a mission-critical environment.
Specific Responsibilities
- Maintain and support the integrity of operating systems and infrastructure across development and production environments
- Perform system maintenance tasks including backups, patching, and recovery to ensure uptime and performance
- Install, configure, and test system software and hardware components
- Support cloud-based and hybrid infrastructure operations, including OCI and AWS environments
- Document system configurations, changes, and troubleshooting procedures
- Collaborate with help desk, cybersecurity, and engineering teams to ensure secure and compliant operations
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field
- 4–6 years of experience in systems administration or enterprise IT support
- IAT/IAM Level I certification (e.g., A+, Network+, or equivalent)
- Experience maintaining and supporting Linux and/or Windows operating systems in enterprise environments
- Proficiency in system backup, recovery, patching, and performance tuning
- Experience with system software installation, upgrades, and configuration management
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), or Azure
- Ability to document system configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and change logs
- Active DoD Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain one
- Experience supporting secure federal or defense-related IT environments
- Familiarity with virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Oracle VM) and containerization (e.g., Docker)
- Knowledge of STIGs, RMF, and DoD cybersecurity compliance
- Experience with automation and scripting (e.g., Bash, PowerShell, Python)
- Exposure to capacity planning, system monitoring, and performance optimization
- Experience supporting interface management and data integrity in integrated systems
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Must be able to work in a secure federal environment
- Standard office environment with computer workstation
- Ability to work day shift hours
- Ability to work on-site at Quantico, VA location
- Occasional physical handling of hardware components and server equipment
