About the Role:
The Body Shop Technician plays a critical role in restoring vehicles to their original condition following collisions or damage. This position involves assessing damaged vehicles, performing precise repairs, and ensuring all work meets safety and quality standards. The technician will collaborate closely with insurance adjusters, customers, and team members to deliver timely and satisfactory service. Attention to detail and a commitment to craftsmanship are essential to maintain the reputation of the retail trade establishment. Ultimately, the role ensures customer satisfaction by returning vehicles to a safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing state.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proven experience as a Body Shop Technician or in a similar role within the automotive repair industry.
- Knowledge of vehicle body repair techniques, tools, and materials.
- Ability to read and interpret repair manuals, blueprints, and technical documents.
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification from a recognized automotive body repair program (e.g., I-CAR, ASE).
- Experience working with computerized estimating systems and collision repair software.
- Familiarity with various vehicle makes and models, including newer technologies and materials.
- Strong welding and paint-matching skills.
- Previous experience in a retail trade environment or customer-facing role.
Responsibilities:
- Inspect and evaluate damaged vehicles to determine the extent of repairs needed.
- Remove damaged parts and replace or repair body panels, frames, and other components.
- Use specialized tools and equipment to straighten frames, weld, and refinish surfaces.
- Collaborate with insurance representatives to provide accurate repair estimates and updates.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment while adhering to all safety protocols.
- Document repair processes and parts used to ensure transparency and quality control.
- Communicate effectively with customers and team members to manage expectations and timelines.
Skills:
The required skills in body shop repair are applied daily to assess vehicle damage accurately and execute repairs that restore structural integrity and appearance. Proficiency with body shop tools and techniques ensures efficient and high-quality workmanship. Preferred skills such as certification and experience with estimating software enhance the technician’s ability to provide precise repair plans and cost assessments. Effective communication skills are essential for coordinating with customers and insurance agents, ensuring transparency and satisfaction. Additionally, attention to detail and problem-solving abilities help in addressing complex repair challenges and maintaining safety standards.
