Mechanical Craftsman Job Summary


Performs repair, replacement, and preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment, in both scheduled and emergency situations. Incumbents work 4 – 10 hours shifts with weekend coverage once per month, including holidays and overtime as required.

Mechanical Craftsman Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical failures with a minimum of assistance or instructions.
  • Performs all work safely.
  • Maintains a clean work area and vehicle.
  • Performs all tasks assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Identifies replacement parts and equipment accurately.
  • Completes material requisitions in a complete and accurate manner.
  • Writes complete and accurate accounts of work performed onto work orders.
  • Performs precision alignment of rotating equipment, i.e., pumps, motors, and gear boxes.
  • Replaces or adds packing in pumps and valves.
  • Functions as project lead when required.
  • Performs preventive maintenance tasks as required.
  • Advises Maintenance Supervisor of any abnormal or unusual equipment operating condition.
  • Performs lubrication and oil changes on mechanical equipment.
  • Operates heavy equipment, i.e., crane, forklift, backhoe, bucket lift and front-end loader.
  • Performs rigging tasks for crane and hand winch lifting.
  • Understands and operates facility to maintain all compliance requirements. Notifies Supervisor/Manager or appropriate agency if compliance exceedance occurs.
  • Completes assigned training requirements.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Requirements:

Mechanical Craftsman prerequisites


High school education or equivalent, plus 9 years work experience as a mechanic in an industrial environment. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Skilled in the use of precision alignment tools and practices. Knowledge of standard insulation practices.


Mechanical Craftsman Skills

  • Ability to operate heavy equipment, crane, etc.
  • Basic rigging skills.
  • Ability to identify equipment failure cause and determine appropriate repair procedure.
  • Ability to function effectively with limited supervision.
  • Ability to read and interpret information in technical manuals and drawings.
  • Willingness to assist in training other personnel.
  • Ability to work safely and effectively with others.
  • Ability to use oxygen/acetylene torch for cutting, welding, or heating as required.
  • Ability to operate computer in accessing work order and stores information.


Salary Information

$34.07 - $42.88 Hourly Wage
