Summary

St. Cloud LIVE seeks quality applicants for an Intern for the summer of 2026 to serve as a News Reporter covering St. Cloud and Central Minnesota. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to learn on-the-job skills in a fast-paced environment under the supervision of an Editor while working alongside and occasionally with other Reporters and Photographers. In addition to covering breaking news, interns will be encouraged to dig for stories and produce thorough, engaging content for a targeted audience that may be used in both digital and print production. Employment period negotiable, but this is a temporary position that will generally last between June 1 and August 15, with part-time hours (20-25 hours/week.) 


Essential Functions

  • Research assigned stories and develop individual ideas into relevant content, incorporating multimedia aspects such as video, audio, and/or photography. 
  • Respond with urgency to breaking news, including writing stories and/or producing visuals on deadline with a digital-first audience in mind.
  • Gather and verify information for stories through interviews, observations, and research. 
  • Build rapport with story sources and contributors, and stay attuned to local, regional, and state issues. 
  • Embrace a creative, collaborative approach with other team members and with other FCC departments and locations.
  • Contribute to the overall advancement of digital initiatives; share and promote digital content through various social media channels as needed.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should be currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in journalism, mass communication, or a related field. 
  • Professional experience writing strongly preferred, as is AP style writing experience.
  • Flexibility in scheduling.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle sensitive and emotional situations, balance competing demands, set priorities, and juggle multiple commitments at once. 
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to listen, interview, and take accurate notes and write accurate, clear, and concise stories. 
  • Detail oriented, with strong organizational skills. 
  • Computer skills in word processing and content management systems.   

 

Expected compensation for this role is approximately $15/hour, based on qualifications and experience.
