Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced CNC Machinist with a minimum of 8 years of machining experience, preferably in a job shop or heavy industrial environment. This role focuses on the setup and operation of large horizontal boring mills and machining centers, producing mission-critical defense components held to tight tolerances.

Large Machine Equipment – Primary Focus

This position will primarily operate the following equipment:

Giddings & Lewis Horizontal Boring Mill

  • 33-foot X-travel floor table machine

  • Siemens 840D control

  • Programmable right-angle head

TOS (Vansdorf) Horizontal Boring Mill (New January 2025)

  • 5’ x 8’ table with B-axis horizontal configuration

  • Programmable 5-axis non-orthogonal head

  • Automatic head and tool changing support

Experience with large-envelope machining, multi-axis heads, and complex setups is critical for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate large CNC horizontal and vertical machining centers and turning centers

  • Perform complex job setups using engineered fixtures and tooling

  • Operate manual lathes and mills as required for precision work

  • Conduct in-process inspections to ensure quality standards are met or exceeded

  • Perform minor CNC program edits

  • Read and interpret technical drawings and specifications using GD&T

  • Work collaboratively with programmers, supervisors, and fellow machinists

  • Maintain a high level of ownership, accountability, and attention to detail

Qualifications

Experience

  • Minimum of 8 years of CNC machining experience

  • Prior experience operating large machines in a job shop or heavy industrial setting preferred

Technical Skills

  • Proficient in setup and operation of large CNC machines

  • Experience with Fanuc and/or Siemens (Sinumerik) controls

  • Strong working knowledge of GD&T

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Additional Requirements

  • Must supply personal machinist tools

  • Reliable transportation and strong attendance

Employment Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen due to government contract requirements

  • No felony convictions for Theft/Deception or Violent Crimes within the past 7 years

  • No felony Drug convictions within the past 3 years

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 25–50 lbs independently and up to 100 lbs with assistance

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive motions for 8–10 hours

  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity required for precision machining

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced industrial environment with varying temperatures and noise levels

  • Frequent handling of tools, components, and machined metal parts
