POSITION SUMMARY 

 

The Pre-Op/PACU nurse is responsible for providing nursing care to the patient during all phases of their stay to include pre, intra and post-operative. Serves as the patient and patient’s family advocate. The RN consistently applies and utilizes the nursing process, critical thinking skills, scientific judgment, technical skills, and leadership to independently deliver safe nursing care to patients. The RN collaborates with the clinical team to achieve quality patient outcomes.  

 

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY  

 

Consistently delivers high quality, cost effective patient care services Provide patient education through all phases of the patient experience at the centerCoordinates patient care activities with medical staff and clinical team to provide continuity of careResponds to emergency situations with competence and composureAccurately assess and interpret patient dataMakes accurate, complete and timely entries into the patient medical record addressing all steps of the nursing processRecognizes and report errors or unusual activities and initiate corrective action when appropriatePerforms daily AM and PM narcotic counts to ensure inventory is reconciled against medical record and Narcotic LogEducates the patient and family members regarding discharge instructions and what to expect before and after surgeryEnsure that the proper supplies and equipment are available in the pre-op and PACU areasMaintains professional competence through continuing educationPerform other duties as assigned 

 

SKILLS 

Requires frequent and constant judgment, leadership, and the ability to make decisions and solve problems immediately; occasionally in response to disasters or emergencies, actual events or drills. Requires English language skills for constant high-level written and interpersonal communications.Ability to lift/transfer patients in excess of 100 pounds, which may require pushing, pulling and essentially utilizing a full range of body movement 

 

 

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS 

Registered Nurse License requiredMinimum 3 years of experience in a critical care area preferredDirectly related experience in a Pre/Post Dept. in ASC preferredACLS/BLS certifications required
