The Dietary Cook at LA JOLLA POST-ACUTE in Mississippi plays a critical role in preparing nutritious and appetizing meals tailored to the dietary needs of residents in a long-term care facility. This position ensures that all food preparation meets strict sanitation and safety standards while adhering to prescribed diet therapy guidelines. The Dietary Cook collaborates closely with dietary staff and healthcare professionals to accommodate special dietary requirements and preferences, enhancing the overall well-being of residents. Flexibility in scheduling and the ability to manage both quantity and quality cooking are essential to meet the dynamic needs of the facility. Ultimately, this role contributes significantly to the health, satisfaction, and comfort of residents by delivering meals that support their dietary plans and promote recovery and wellness.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience working in a long-term care facility or similar healthcare food service environment.Knowledge of sanitation standards and safe food handling practices.Ability to perform work tasks efficiently and follow detailed instructions.Basic reading skills to understand dietary orders, recipes, and safety protocols.Capability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Formal training or certification in diet therapy or nutrition.Experience with quantity and quality cooking in institutional settings.Demonstrated flexibility in scheduling and adaptability to changing work demands.Familiarity with specialized dietary needs such as diabetic, low sodium, or texture-modified diets.Proactive approach to learning and implementing new food preparation methods.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook meals in accordance with established dietary guidelines and resident-specific diet therapy plans.Maintain high standards of sanitation and cleanliness in all food preparation and service areas to comply with health regulations.Work collaboratively with the dietary team and healthcare staff to ensure meals meet nutritional and therapeutic requirements.Manage food quantities efficiently to minimize waste while ensuring quality and presentation standards are met.Adapt to a flexible work schedule to support the facility’s operational needs, including weekends and holidays.Continuously seek out new methods and principles in food preparation to improve meal quality and resident satisfaction.Read and interpret dietary orders, recipes, and menus accurately to ensure proper meal preparation.
