About this position

Job Purpose

To assist Staff Engineers in performing basic technical engineering tasks ranging from drafting, documenting site conditions, organizing inspection results and data under direct supervision of Staff Engineer.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide drafting assistance to Staff Engineer(s) by developing CAD details and designs from their sketches.
  • Help Staff Engineer(s) in researching Codes and Applicable Standards related to the construction process.
  • Assist Staff Engineer(s) in field observations of construction projects. Help with data collection (observations) and verify project conformance to design.
  • Assists Staff Engineer(s) and Project Manager(s) with development and maintenance of product standards.
  • Assist Staff Engineer(s) by performing simple estimate of materials, equipment, and/or labor quantities.
  • Strictly adhere to the office standards, policies, and project schedules. Inform the Project Manager and/or department head timely regarding any conflicts/issues that relate to his/her work.
  • Learning is a required assignment for all employees.

Requirements

Professional Qualifications

  • Future graduate (junior or senior year) of an ABET accredited college or university, or documented combination of education and professional experience in a related engineering field.
  • Valid State of Florida Driver's License and reliable transportation.

Minimum Experience

  • Basic knowledge of engineering or construction principles.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar CAD drafting software.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate and precise drawings.
  • Ability to conduct research and work independently.

Skills and Abilities

  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with drafting standards, engineering terminology, and construction documentation.
  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to interpret technical drawings, codes, and standards.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate with engineers and field personnel.
  • Time Management: Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet project deadlines.
  • Adaptability: Willingness to learn and adapt to evolving responsibilities and new technologies.
  • Team-Oriented: Works well within a collaborative environment and takes direction constructively.
  • Initiative: Self-motivated with a desire to gain hands-on experience and grow professionally.

Physical Demands* 

Necessary to perform the assigned duties safely and effectively:

  • Ability to sit with back at a 90-degree angle for up to 8 hours per day.
  • Ability to look at a computer for up to 8 hours per day.
  • Ability to stand upright for up to 8 hours per day.
  • Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas (uneven terrain, exposure to outdoor weather elements)
  • Bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, laying, crawling, and twisting required up to 30% of the time in this role.
  • Must be able to ride in a hoist and/or swing stage.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to use right and left foot for repetitive movements as in operating controls or levers.
  • Full dexterity of wrists and fingers required with repetitive motions.
  • Must be able to see near, in the distance, color, depth, and range.

*Safety equipment, including but not limited to hard hat, OSHA approved footwear, safety glasses and safety vests, is always required while performing job functions on active construction sites. Safety gloves, ear plugs, and safety harness will be issued when appropriate.


*Riding in a hoist and/or in a swing stage to be performed under strict adherence to the OSHA standards. Climbing ladders and scaffolds to be performed under strict adherence to the OSHA standards.
