Purpose:
The Service Technician we are looking for is a Exhaust Systems Specialist is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, fabricating, and installing exhaust systems on domestic and import vehicles. This role requires strong welding and fabrication skills, knowledge of emissions systems, and the ability to perform general automotive repair duties in addition to exhaust-specific work.
The technician ensures vehicles meet manufacturer standards for performance, emissions compliance, safety, and reliability while maintaining high-quality workmanship and shop efficiency.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge of automotive systems and operations.
- Proficient in diagnosing and troubleshooting vehicle issues using diagnostic tools, performing tests, and identifying necessary repairs.
- Skilled in performing a variety of mechanical repairs and services, including removal and reinstallation of parts, and completing service procedures.
- Ability to perform thorough inspections on vehicles to assess service and repair needs based on mileage and condition.
- Strong communication skills in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Can work independently or collaboratively in a team environment
- Positive attitude and a customer service mindset
- Proficiency in using computers and diagnostic tools for vehicle diagnostics, accessing repair instructions, and using customer management software
- Capable of lifting up to 50lbs without assistance
- Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 60 minutes at a time)
- Basic math and counting skills for performing repair estimates and parts ordering
- Proficient in performing both fine and major motor skills to complete repairs, vehicle inspections, and shop duties, including reaching overhead, bending, stooping, and other physical tasks
- Maintain knowledge of manufacturer bulletins, recalls, and updates.
- Document diagnostics, repairs, parts used, and recommendations clearly and accurately.
- Perform quality-control checks to ensure repairs meet OEM standards.
- Communicate findings with service advisors and customers when needed.
- Uphold shop standards for cleanliness, organization, and workflow efficiency.
Safety
- Wear ANSI Z87.1+ impact-rated safety glasses at all times.
- Use prescription safety glasses or approved safety eyewear if corrective lenses are needed.
- Wear safety footwear (slip-resistant, impact-rated).
- Use gloves appropriate to the task (chemical, cut-resistant, heat).
- Follow all OSHA, EPA, and company safety procedures.
- Use lockout/tagout when working on electrical systems or high-voltage components.
- Lift vehicles using certified lift points; inspect lift arms and safety locks before elevating a vehicle.
- Handle batteries, chemicals, coolants, and oils according to safety standards.
- Keep work areas clean and free of trip hazards, oil spills, and debris.
- Use proper ventilation when working with exhaust, fumes, solvents, or adhesives.
- Report any hazards, malfunctioning tools, or unsafe conditions immediately.
- Inspect tools daily and report or tag out damaged equipment.
- Operate scan tools, lifts, alignment machines, and specialty equipment only if trained.
- Follow manufacturer instructions for airbag systems, high-voltage components, and ADAS systems.
Qualifications
- 2-5 years of hands-on experience working as an automotive technician.
- ASE Certification preferred
- OEM-Specific Certification preferred
- ADAS Certification preferred?
- Strong diagnostic and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Professional communication with customers and internal staff.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous learning.
Exhaust-Specific Expertise:
- Advanced knowledge of exhaust systems including manifolds, catalytic converters, resonators, mufflers, piping, hangers, and emissions components.
- Skilled in custom exhaust fabrication, pipe bending, cutting, fitting, and welding (MIG preferred; TIG a plus).
- Ability to diagnose exhaust leaks, restriction issues, vibration concerns, and emissions-related failures.
- Understanding of oxygen sensors, catalytic efficiency codes (P0420/P0430), and emissions system diagnostics.
- Experience replacing broken studs, manifold bolts, and handling rusted or seized hardware.
- Knowledge of state emissions compliance requirements (if applicable).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, bend, kneel, and work in tight spaces.
- Bend, twist, kneel, climb, and stand for long periods.

Note: This role is a fast-paced auto environment with constant noise, moving equipment, power tools, and frequent physical activity including standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting for extended periods.??Must be able to work in varying temperatures depending on shop conditions.

Salary Information
