Job Overview

Circle Seafoods is seeking talented individuals to join our growing seasonal team as seafood processors for our on-shore Barge processing plant in Metlakatla, Alaska in 2026. We encourage you to apply if you are interested in working a full or peak season this summer.


About Circle Seafoods

We process frozen round salmon for domestic and export markets. This will be our third season operating in Metlakatla, Southeast Alaska, and our first full season utilizing our new Barge Facility. Founded in 2023, Circle Seafoods began by testing our process at the AIP plant in Metlakatla. Our core strengths are innovation and a strong commitment to quality and increasing the value of wild salmon.


Essential Functions/Qualifications


Processors' duties in the production department include, but are not limited to, sorting, panning, racking, and case-up. Additionally, Processors are responsible for plant clean-up and other similar or related tasks as assigned or requested.


Essential Functions:


Physical Demands and Work Environment:


This position requires working long, demanding hours in a cold, wet processing environment.


Schedule: Expect shifts up to 16 hours per day, 7 days a week, with breaks occurring approximately every 4 hours. There will be scheduled downtime between fish deliveries and based on production needs.


Physical Activity:


  • Maintain a standing position for the entire shift.
  • Perform frequent and repetitive motions with hands, arms, legs, and back.
  • Frequently engage in rotation, twisting, and bending at the waist, and climb/descend stairs.
  • Occasionally sit, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.


Lifting Requirements:


  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.


Required Skills: Possess the necessary visual acuity and tactile dexterity for processing tasks.


Pace: Must work quickly and maintain sharp mental focus as part of a team.


Core Job Responsibilities:


  • Product Handling and Quality Assurance
  • Load whole, fresh Salmon onto conveyor systems.
  • Inspect products and discard substandard, defective, or foreign items to maintain quality standards.
  • Sort and separate products based on specific criteria (grade, color, size, species, sex) on the conveyor or work table.
  • Move sorted products to their designated containers or transfer them onto appropriate conveyors.
  • Collect, weigh, and meticulously tally the Salmon product.
  • Prepare frozen salmon for storage or shipment by packaging it into various containers (e.g., baskets, cans, boxes, barrels, totes, or crates).


Safety and Plant Environment


  • Maintain a consistently safe and clean workspace.
  • Actively participate in general plant cleanup duties.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, including the use of required safety gear and the timely reporting of any hazards, to ensure a secure work environment.
  • Essential Qualifications and Working Conditions:
  • Age and Authorization: Must be at least 18 years of age and authorized to work in the U.S.


Availability: Maintain punctuality and attendance for all scheduled shifts.


Physical Demands (Standing & Environment):


  • Ability to stand and work for extended hours in an environment that is often cold and wet.
  • Work involves being in a cold, wet, and loud facility with strong seafood odors.
  • Requires the ability to physically evacuate the area swiftly in case of an emergency.
  • Physical Demands (Repetitive Motion & Handling):
  • Perform tasks requiring repetitive use of hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders.
  • Use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms for extended periods.
  • Process, touch, and be in close proximity to seafood products.


Safety Awareness: Work safely around moving machinery, forklifts, vehicles, and elevated walkways.


Living & Work Environment: Willingness to live and work with a culturally diverse workforce, sharing bunkhouse rooms and communal restrooms.

Preferred Skill: Operating a forklift is beneficial (training is available).


Essential Competencies and Skills:


Language Proficiency: Must be able to communicate effectively in basic English.


Reading and Writing: Capable of basic literacy, including the ability to read, write, and identify subtle differences in words and numerical sequences.


Numerical Skills: Proficient in fundamental arithmetic operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, particularly with multiples of 10 and 100.


Applied Measurement: Able to utilize standard units of measurement for weight, volume, and distance in the performance of job duties.


Compensation and Overtime:


This is an hourly position eligible for overtime pay. Employees in Alaska receive overtimeat 1.5 times the regular hourly rateafter working eight regular hours in a day or after 40 regular hours in a week. Please note that extensive overtime is frequently offered or required, with total workdays often reaching up to 16 hours.


Education/Experience:

Previous seafood industry experience is a plus. We also welcome employees with no prior experience or training.
