About this position

Position Summary – Visual Inspector 

The Visual Inspector is responsible for performing visual inspections on aerospace sheet metal and machined components to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, customer requirements, and AS9100 Quality Management System standards. This role focuses on detecting surface defects, workmanship issues, finishing inconsistencies nonconformances before product release to the next operation or shipment. The position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to interpret drawings and workmanship standards, and familiarity with aerospace cosmetic and functional acceptance criteria. 

Responsibilities: 

• Inspect formed, welded, riveted, and assembled sheet metal parts.

• Verify workmanship standards (edges, burrs, sharp edges, cracks, dents, scratches).

• Inspect surface finishes including:

     o Anodize

     o Chem film

     o Powder coat / paint

     o Passivation

• Check for proper labeling, part marking, and traceability.

• Verify compliance with customer cosmetic requirements.

• Complete inspection reports and sign off travelers.

• Tag and segregate nonconforming product. Required Skills and Experience

• Ability to read and interpret manufacturing documentation.

• Effective communication across production, engineering, and customers.

• Understanding of aerospace materials and special processes.

• Attention to detail and strong observational skills.

Education and Experience

• Minimum 3 years of experience in visual inspection, preferably in an aerospace environment.

• Experience in a sheet metal or machine shop environment is highly desirable.

• Familiarity with AS9100 quality management systems. Work Environment

• Manufacturing floor environment, standing/walking for extended periods.

• Exposure to noise, dust, metal shavings, and occasional sharp objects.

• May require use of PPE such as gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection.

Physical Demands

• Stand continuously and lift objects up to 30lbs

• Good vision (corrected or uncorrected) for visual inspection tasks, including color differentiation.

$19.0 - $25.0 Hourly Wage
