About the role
We are looking for an employee with experience working in a Clinical Laboratory. Knowledge of clinical laboratory processes and procedures required. This candidate will be expected to perform quality control testing, calibrations, and maintenance of laboratory analyzers. This candidate will be responsible for testing patient samples, reporting results and keeping appropriate documentation. Candidates with a knowledge of quality assurance measures are preferred. Candidates who possess strong detail oriented and interpersonal and leadership skills will excel in this position.
Supervision Received: Reports to Director of Operations and Laboratory Manager
Typical Physical Demands: Requires full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Frequent walking, sitting, bending, and standing required for extended periods of time. Lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds. Requires visual acuity and normal color perception.
Typical Working Conditions: Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
Responsibilities
GENERAL DUTIES: (This list may not include all duties assigned)
Prepare bone marrow aspirates and biopsies for analysis, as well as fine needle aspirates per procedure manual. Follow the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results. Familiarity with all standard and customary tests required. Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples for procedures described in #2 above. Adhere to quality assurance policies, corrective action policies and preventive maintenance policies for procedures described above. Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications. Immediately notify technical supervisor when identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance if problem cannot be corrected.
Perform equipment maintenance, calibration, and quality control. Maintain log sheets for equipment maintenance. Perform processes in Orchard LIS necessary for job duties. Print and review Levey- Jennings graphs and quality control results from the LIS or analyzer Perform paperwork necessary for departmental requirements. Perform review of pending orders daily to ensure all samples have been received and processed.
Contact providers and/or clinical staff with abnormal/critical results based on policy guidelines. Review Critical Results report daily to ensure notification of all critical lab values Develop an open line of communication with coworkers and manager Prepare blood and urine specimens to be sent out to reference labs. Perform specimen processing duties when necessary.
Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly fashion. Put away supplies upon receipt.
Keep biohazard trash at an acceptable level. Assist with monitoring inventory of supplies.
