About this position
Summary/Objective
The Histology Technician precisely and accurately performs a variety of routine and specialized histology techniques and procedures. They follow standard operating procedures for the grossing of small specimens, maintain quality control, and ensure quality assurance. Flexibility and versatility are demonstrated in coordinating tasks and handling special projects.
Essential Functions
- Describes, measures, and inks specimens according to specified protocols.
- Ensures artifact-free microtomy.
- Conducts staining procedures accurately and precisely, resulting in diagnostic slides.
- Operates and maintains computer and laboratory equipment following USDH and laboratory procedures.
- Performs quality control (Q/C) and quality assurance (Q/A) documentation as required.
- Utilizes and stores supplies efficiently, promptly notifying the supervisor when additional supplies are needed.

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional medical office environment, utilizing standard office equipment.
Physical Demands
The physical demands include standing, walking, and occasionally lifting or moving up to 25 pounds.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, with an 8-hour shift from 3:00pm to 11:30pm, Monday through Friday. No weekends are required.
Travel
Travel based on location.

Requirements
Education and Experience
- Training that meets all regulatory requirements of CLIA, CAP, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Specifically, the requirements for high complexity testing
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution
Work Authorization/Security Clearance
- Must be authorized to work in the US for any employer
