Mammography Technologist (Coordinator)

POSITION PURPOSE

Under the supervision and direction of a radiologist, maintains high-quality imaging standards, consistently achieving a repeat rate not exceeding 5%, while ensuring optimal image quality and patient safety. Demonstrates effective leadership through strong organization, clear communication, and timely problem resolution to support daily operations. Ensures exam rooms are properly stocked, clean, and inspection-ready at all times to support efficient workflow and regulatory compliance. Actively supports continuous quality improvement initiatives and maintains ongoing readiness for regulatory and accreditation inspections. Demonstrates flexibility in scheduling and staffing to meet departmental needs during fluctuations in patient volume. Provides ongoing development, guidance, and clinical support to mammography staff, fostering a collaborative, efficient, and patient-centered team environment.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Minimum of 5 years of mammography experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with accreditation compliance, quality assurance, workflow coordination, and leadership.

LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Licensed Radiographer in the State of Wisconsin
  • ARRT registered in Radiography (R.T.(R))
  • ARRT registered in Mammography (R.T.(M))
  • Current BLS/CPR certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross), or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.

SUPERVISES

  • Serve as a mentor and clinical resource for staff.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Expert knowledge of mammography procedures, positioning, and breast imaging workflows
  • Working knowledge of MQSA, ACR, ARRT, and state regulatory requirements
  • Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to balance clinical responsibilities with coordination and oversight duties
  • Proficiency with RIS/PACS, EMR, and scheduling systems
  • Ability to educate staff, patients, and providers effectively.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  1. Coordinates daily mammography operations to ensure safe, efficient patient flow, adequate staffing coverage, and timely completion of routine and special examinations.
  2. Serves as the primary clinical liaison among mammography technologists, radiologists, physicists, vendors, and imaging leadership to support effective communication and operational continuity.
  3. Ensures compliance with MQSA, ACR, state, and organizational standards, actively preparing for and participating in inspections, audits, and regulatory reviews.
  4. Oversee quality control, quality assurance, and documentation processes; monitors performance trends and collaborates with leadership on quality and process improvement initiatives.
  5. Provides onboarding, training coordination, mentoring, and ongoing competency support for mammography technologists to maintain clinical excellence and regulatory compliance.
  6. Supports the development, implementation, and standardization of policies, protocols, and workflows across mammography sites.
  7. Participates in supply management, equipment readiness, and service coordination to minimize downtime and ensure operational efficiency.
  8. Serves as a clinical resource and escalation point for complex examinations, patient concerns, and workflow issues, providing guidance and resolution as needed.
  9. Performs routine and special mammography procedures, utilizing proper positioning, technique, radiation safety, and sterile/aseptic practices in accordance with policy and physician direction.
  10. Accurate documentation of procedures, patient histories, quality data, verbal orders (using read-back), and medication administration in RIS/PACS and EMR systems while providing compassionate patient care.
