General Summary:

The PAT Assistant is a clinical-administrative liaison responsible for the preparation and verification of patient records prior to surgery. Working in tandem with the PAT RN and Anesthesia team, this role ensures that all medical histories, physicals (H&Ps), and specialized clearances are secured, reviewed, and documented in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) to facilitate a safe and efficient surgical flow.

 

Essential Job Functions:

 

Clinical Coordination & Anesthesia Support:

  • Collaborate with the Anesthesia team to identify high-risk patients requiring in-person PAT visits based on medical history or predetermined risk factors.
  • Review anesthesia-related records and secure missing clinical data to ensure patients are cleared for their scheduled procedures.
  • Monitor the surgical schedule daily to ensure 100% completion of medical histories prior to the date of service.

 

Medical Record Management:

  • Proactively request and track History & Physicals (H&Ps), EKG results, and cardiac/pulmonary clearances from outside physician offices.
  • Act as the primary liaison between the Surgery Center and referring physician offices to resolve documentation gaps.
  • Ensure all external documents are accurately scanned, labeled, and uploaded into the patient’s EHR.

 

Patient Education & Communication:

  • Contact patients prior to surgery to review pre-operative instructions, including NPO (fasting) requirements and medication management.
  • Confirm patient understanding of the scheduled procedure and arrival times to minimize day-of-surgery anxiety and delays.
  • Maintain a high standard of customer service, handling patient inquiries with tact and professionalism.

 

Operational Support:

  • Provide cross-functional support to the clinical staff, including assisting with basic patient flow or room preparation as delegated.

 

  • Perform other administrative or clinical duties as assigned to support the efficiency of the center.


General Qualifications:

 

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Active Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) credential highly preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a clinical medical setting (surgical or primary care) is preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required (or must be obtained within 30 days of hire).


Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and basic scanning/typing.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks under pressure while maintaining a professional demeanor.


Physical Requirements:

 

  • Ability to stand, walk and sit for an extended period of time.
  • Ability to communicate in English.
  • Ability to see within normal parameters.
  • Ability to hear within normal range.
  • Ability to use hands, arms and legs within specifications of the job

8am to 4:30pm and 6:30am-3:00pm
Monday, Wednesday and Friday
Budgeted Hours: 24 hours per week

Salary Information

$18.0 - $19.0 Hourly Wage
