About this Position:

The Music Teacher is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive music program for students in grades PK-8. This position emphasizes integrating faith and music education, fostering a music appreciation, and cultivating students' talents and abilities in a Christ-centered learning environment.


Qualifications and Skills:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or a related field (preferred).

  • Teaching certification or equivalent experience in a classroom setting (preferred).

  • Experience working with children in PK-8 grade levels (preferred).

Knowledge and Skills

  • Proficiency in vocal and instrumental music instruction.

  • Ability to integrate Christian faith into the curriculum and classroom environment.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Familiarity with current music education methodologies and technology.

Christian Commitment

  • Demonstrated commitment to a personal Christian faith and alignment with the school’s mission.

  • Ability to lead and inspire students in worship and spiritual growth through music.


Key Responsibilities:

Curriculum and Instruction

  • Develop and implement a music curriculum aligned with school goals and values.

  • Plan engaging and developmentally appropriate lessons for diverse age groups and skill levels.

  • Teach general music classes, including rhythm, melody, harmony, theory, and music appreciation.

  • Instruct and lead students in vocal and instrumental music, including ensemble or choir opportunities.

  • Foster creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking through music education.

Performance and Events

  • Collaborate with administration to organize and direct school musical programs, performances, and events, such as Christmas programs, chapel services, and a student talent show.

  • Encourage student participation in special programs, worship services, and community outreach events.

  • Collaborate with staff to integrate music into broader school and classroom activities.

Classroom Management

  • Establish an engaging and well-managed learning environment.

  • Adapt teaching strategies to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.

  • Promote Christian values and character development through classroom interactions and lesson content.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry classroom equipment and instruments (up to 25 pounds).

  • Willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends for performances and events.

Start Date:

  • DCS is hiring for the 2026-2027 school year. New teachers report to work by August 2026 (exact start date of preplanning TBD).
