Position Summary
The CMM Operator/Inspector performs inspection of materials, tooling, and manufactured parts to determine compliance with engineering drawings and quality requirements. This includes inspection of parts, fixtures, jigs, cutting tools, drills, taps, and related components using Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), surface table layouts, bench setups, and specialized gauges.
This role is responsible for complete part setup and layout, establishing inspection starting points when required, and determining part acceptability. The CMM Operator must accurately document and report inspection results in accordance with Quality Assurance procedures. A strong understanding of mechanical drawings, GD&T, and close-tolerance inspection is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform dimensional and visual inspection using CMM and conventional inspection equipment
- Set up and inspect parts using Zeiss DB Series CMM and Calypso software
- Conduct surface table layouts and utilize precision inspection tools
- Interpret mechanical drawings including GD&T per ANSI Y14.5
- Work to close tolerances, blueprints, specifications, and special instructions
- Prepare and complete inspection documentation, including First Article Reports (AS9102)
- Apply statistical quality control methods and comply with ISO9000 and AS9100 standards
- Support model-based inspection requirements
- Utilize FARO laser tracking equipment as required
- Manage multiple projects and inspection priorities
- Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with modern CMM equipment
- Familiarity with Zeiss DB Series CMM and Calypso software
- Proficiency with inspection tools including micrometers, calipers, depth gauges, and related equipment
- Advanced shop mathematics skills
- Knowledge of statistical quality control and applicable MIL-Specs
- Thorough understanding of ISO9000 and AS9100 quality systems
- Ability to read and interpret detailed mechanical drawings and GD&T
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- High level of discipline, accuracy, and work ethic
