Description:

Provide pre-hospital, emergency room, and hospital care to patients in accordance with established guidelines. Responsibilities include patient assessment, emergency care, transportation, and preparation of ambulances for subsequent calls.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily checks of assigned ambulances at the beginning of each shift.
  • Operate ambulances safely and proficiently.
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments, evaluating all signs and symptoms.
  • Deliver pre-hospital emergency care and basic patient stabilization.
  • Maintain scene control until relieved by appropriate authorities.
  • Restock and clean ambulances post-call.
  • Assist in various hospital departments as directed.
  • Accurately document care provided in the field and complete necessary billing documentation.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
  • Adhere to Compliance, Safety, and HIPAA policies.
  • Register patients through the ER registration department.
  • Assist in the ER with tasks such as taking vital signs, transporting patients, and supporting ER nurses as needed.
Requirements:

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach with arms, and communicate effectively.
  • Must be capable of lifting and carrying up to 135 pounds, including assisting with patient movement and equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

  • Exposure to various environmental conditions, including wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, outdoor weather, and risk of electrical shock.
  • Moderate noise level typical of hospital and emergency response settings.

Qualifications:

  • Must meet the minimum vision standards to obtain an Illinois State driver's license.
  • Ability to converse and write in English.
  • Frequent use of hands for fine dexterity and grasping tasks.
