Position Overview

Alpine Communication is seeking a strategic, utility-focused Director of Business Development to lead growth initiatives centered on joint-use management, pole attachment programs, permitting administration, and related engineering services.

This role is responsible for driving new utility partnerships, expanding existing relationships, and positioning Alpine as a trusted, long-term joint-use program partner. The ideal candidate understands utility operations, regulatory dynamics, joint-use workflows, and the challenges utilities face managing attachment volume, compliance, and data integrity.

This is a high-impact, revenue-generating leadership position focused on consultative selling, relationship development, and strategic market expansion within the electric utility sector.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Growth & Revenue Development

  • Identify and pursue new joint-use management opportunities with municipal, cooperative, IOU, and public power utilities.
  • Develop and execute territory-based business development strategies aligned with Alpine’s growth objectives.
  • Lead full-cycle sales efforts including prospecting, qualification, discovery, solution positioning, proposal development, and contract negotiation.
  • Drive revenue targets associated with joint-use audits, permitting administration, engineering, compliance review, and program management services.

Utility Relationship Management

  • Establish executive-level relationships within utility engineering, operations, compliance, and procurement departments.
  • Position Alpine as a long-term program partner rather than a transactional vendor.
  • Support RFI/RFP responses, pricing strategy, and solution alignment to utility requirements.
  • Maintain ongoing engagement with current clients to identify expansion opportunities.

Market Intelligence & Positioning

  • Monitor industry trends including broadband expansion, attachment volume growth, regulatory changes, and infrastructure modernization initiatives.
  • Represent Alpine at industry events, conferences, and utility association meetings.
  • Collaborate with marketing to refine value propositions specific to utilities.
  • Provide competitive intelligence and feedback to leadership.

Internal Collaboration

  • Work closely with operations, engineering, and executive leadership to ensure alignment between sales commitments and delivery capabilities.
  • Support transition from contract execution to operational kickoff to ensure client satisfaction and long-term retention.

Required Qualifications

  • 5 –7+ years of business development or sales experience in:
    • Electric utilities
    • Joint-use or pole attachment programs
    • Utility engineering services
    • Infrastructure services
  • Demonstrated success selling complex service-based solutions to utilities.
  • Strong understanding of joint-use processes including audits, permitting, compliance, and attachment management.
  • Experience responding to RFPs and navigating utility procurement environments.
  • Proven ability to build executive-level relationships.
  • Strong financial acumen and ability to structure pricing strategies.
  • Willingness to travel (estimated 40–60%).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working directly within or selling to:
    • Investor-Owned Utilities (IOUs)
    • Municipal electric utilities
    • Electric cooperatives
  • Knowledge of NESC standards and attachment compliance frameworks.
  • Background in engineering services, broadband infrastructure, or utility program management.
  • Established industry network within utility sector.

Salary Information

$135000.0 - $165000.0 Annual Salary
