POSITION SUMMARY:


This role supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This role works closely with the Teen Director to assist with the planning, coordination, and day-to-day execution of teen programs including Leader’s Club, Teen Ambassadors, and Civic Engagement Programs (Youth and Government and Model UN). The Teen Assistant helps create a positive, safe, and engaging environment for teens, supports program activities, and provides guidance to participants while reinforcing YMCA values and program expectations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Uphold the YMCA of Montclair commitment to caring for individuals and families, with a focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility and basic principles of honesty, integrity, and a sincere commitment to our team members and our members.
  • Ensure quality of program success in accordance with our Mission Statement.
  • Support the Teen Director in the delivery and facilitation of Leader’s Club, Teen Ambassadors, and Civic Engagement programs.
  • Establish and evaluate achievement of program goals and objectives with the Teen Director.
  • Assist with the planning, preparation, and implementation of program activities, meetings, and events 
  • Help monitor program quality and provide feedback to the Teen Director to support program improvement.
  • Assist with recruitment efforts by engaging teens, families, and staff.
  • Help maintain program schedules and communicate updates to participants as needed.
  • Support supervision of teens during programs, meetings, and special events to ensure safety and positive behavior.
  • Assist in maintaining safe, organized, and welcoming program spaces
  • Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating YCMA values including honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
  • Champion gender and cultural diversity while successfully implementing and monitoring programs.
  • Assist Teen Director in groups in participation of statewide events including a regional weekend retreat.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Attend required Abuse Risk Management training and adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising members and participants. 
  • Follow employee and volunteer screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk. Provide employees and volunteers with on-going supervision and training related to abuse risk. 
  • Provide employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with consumers and require them to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk.
  • Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations using the Y’s disciplinary procedures and respond seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and follow mandated reporting requirements. 
  • Communicates to all employees and volunteers the Y’s commitment to protect our members from abuse.

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with teens and supporting youth programs
  • Interest or background in civic engagement, leadership development, education or government programs preferred
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Flexible schedule to support teen programming needs
  • Collaborative, supportive and dependable team member
  • Must have a CPR/AED and First Aid Certification OR certified within 90 days of employment.

 


WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Lifting program equipment up to 50lbs.

WORK SCHEDULE: This position is scheduled to work on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 PM–5:30 PM.


REQUIRED AVAILABILITY: Must be available for conference events on Sunday, March 15, 2026, and Friday, April 24 through Sunday, April 26, 2026.


HOURLY PAY RATE$17.00- $18.00
