Sr Automation Engineer


Job Summary  

The Senior Automation Engineer will lead the design, implementation, and optimization of advanced automation systems to transform manufacturing operations. This strategic role requires deep technical expertise in robotics, control systems, and Industry 4.0 technologies to drive innovation, reduce costs, and enhance quality in high-volume production. The ideal candidate will mentor junior engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop cutting-edge automation solutions aligned with business objectives.


Key Responsibilities  


 1. Advanced Automation Leadership  

- Architect and implement large-scale automation systems (robotic workcells, autonomous guided vehicles, smart conveyors) to replace manual processes  

- Spearhead digital transformation initiatives including IIoT, machine learning, and digital twin implementations  

- Serve as technical authority on safety standards (RIA R15.06, OSHA 1910.212) and risk assessments for automation projects  


 2. Technical Project Management  

- Lead capital projects ($500K-$5M scope) from concept to commissioning, including vendor selection and budget management  

- Develop ROI models and present business cases to executive leadership  

- Create and maintain technical documentation (system architectures, validation protocols, O&M manuals)  


 3. Systems Integration & Innovation  

- Design PLC/HMI/SCADA systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Ignition) with MES/ERP integration  

- Implement predictive maintenance systems using vibration analysis and machine learning  

- Evaluate and pilot emerging technologies (cobots, 3D vision, edge computing)  


 4. Team Development & Continuous Improvement  

- Mentor junior engineers and technicians in automation best practices  

- Conduct technology roadmapping to align automation strategy with business goals  

- Lead Kaizen events to optimize existing automated systems  



 Qualifications  


 Education & Certifications  

- Required: BS/MS in Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering  

- Preferred: PE license, PMP, or Certified Automation Professional (CAP)  


 Experience  

- 7+ years in industrial automation with 3+ years in senior/leadership roles  

- Proven track record in:  

  - High-volume manufacturing (electronics, automotive, medical devices)  

  - Full project lifecycle management (>$1M automation projects)  

  - Advanced robotics (Fanuc, ABB, KUKA) and vision systems (Cognex, Keyence)  


 Technical Expertise  

- Mastery of:  

  - PLC programming (Structured Text, Function Block Diagram)  

  - Industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, OPC UA)  

  - Simulation tools (AutoCAD Electrical, Delmia, Process Simulate)  

- Working knowledge of:  

  - Python/C for automation scripting  

  - SQL for manufacturing data analysis  





Salary Information

$90000.0 - $135000.0 Annual Salary
