About this position
Contract Operations Consultant - Shop Floor Operations & MOS Implementation | Food Manufacturing
Synergetics | Remote + 100% Client Travel | 6-Month Contract
We're seeking an experienced Shop Floor Operations Consultant to lead the operations workstream tied to a Manufacturing Operations System (MOS) implementation at a food manufacturing facility. This contract role requires deep hands-on expertise in production floor operations, line optimization, and manufacturing excellence in food processing environments.
The Project: Lead the shop floor operations transformation as part of a comprehensive MOS implementation. You'll work directly on the production floor to optimize line performance, reduce changeover times, improve throughput, and integrate MOS capabilities with daily manufacturing execution. Your expertise will ensure the system meets the real-world needs of production teams.
What You'll Do:
• Conduct comprehensive assessments of shop floor operations including line performance, changeover procedures, and production workflows
• Lead line balancing initiatives to optimize capacity, reduce bottlenecks, and improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE)
• Design and implement changeover optimization programs to minimize downtime and maximize production time
• Map current state production processes and design future state workflows that leverage MOS capabilities
• Define MOS requirements based on shop floor realities including production tracking, quality checks, downtime recording, and batch management
• Develop standard work instructions, visual management tools, and operator training materials
• Facilitate requirements gathering and workflow design sessions with production supervisors, line leads, and operators
• Support MOS configuration to ensure system aligns with actual shop floor practices and constraints
• Lead shop floor user acceptance testing, operator training, and go-live support activities
• Implement performance metrics and dashboards that provide real-time visibility into production performance
What You'll Bring:
• 7-10 years of hands-on experience in food manufacturing shop floor operations
• Deep expertise in production operations including line management, changeover reduction, and throughput optimization
• Food manufacturing experience required - practical knowledge of production lines, sanitation procedures, changeover protocols, allergen controls, and food safety requirements (HACCP, GMP, FSMA)
• Proven track record implementing operational improvements that deliver measurable results in OEE, changeover time, and production output
• Experience with MOS, MES, or shop floor data collection systems in manufacturing environments
• Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles including 5S, SMED, TPM, and continuous improvement methodologies
• Ability to work effectively with production teams at all levels - from operators to plant management
• Excellent problem-solving skills with ability to identify root causes and implement sustainable solutions
• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations Management, or related field
• Willingness to travel 100% to client site and work on production floor during all shifts as needed
Stand-Out Qualifications:
• Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification
• Experience with specific MOS/MES platforms (SAP ME, Rockwell FactoryTalk, Parsec, Aveva, Ignition, etc.)
• Background in specific food sectors: dairy, beverages, packaged foods, meat processing, or baking operations
• CMMI or TPM certification
• Previous consulting or professional services experience
• Bilingual capabilities (English/Spanish) for communication with diverse production teams
Contract Details:
• Duration: 6 months (potential for extension)
• Competitive daily/hourly rate commensurate with experience
• Remote when not at client site; up to 100% travel required based on project needs
• Contractor is responsible for own benefits and insurance
