Description:

This position reports directly to the Manager of Youth Programming and serves as a lead mentor and instructional resource for Bridge and Mavericks coaches. The Head Youth Swim Coach is responsible for supporting staff development, modeling best practices, and ensuring team members meet program standards and follow established policies and procedures.


The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator who thrives in a collaborative environment and demonstrates the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. This role involves coaching swimmers ages 5–17 across a wide range of skill levels. The successful candidate will foster a positive, supportive, and safe learning environment that promotes confidence, skill development, and a lifelong love of the water.


Head Coach Responsibilities (Bridge & Mavericks Programs)

  

  Serve as Head Coach for:

  • Bridge Swim Program during the school year (September–May)
  • Mavericks during the summer season (May–August)

Additional Responsibilities

  • Supports the Manager of Youth Programming with conducting interviews for new hires.
  • Plan and lead daily youth swim practices that align with program goals and developmental stages.
  • Provide individualized stroke feedback, skill development, and conditioning progressions to participants.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and motivating team environment.
  • Communicate effectively with parents on the pool deck regarding swimmer progress and expectations.

Responsible for swim meet preparation & parent communication (Mavericks), including:

  • Initiate practice set-up and review sets with the other coaches.
  • Write swim sets ahead of the season. Have a packet for each coach so that they know what to expect each day.
  • Runs tryouts.
  • Confirms dates and social events with the Manager of Youth Programming.
  • Creating meet sheets using Team Manager and Meet Manager computer programs.
  • Communicating with parents and coordinating volunteers.
  • Communicating logistics with opposing teams.
  • Ensuring swimmers understand meet procedures and expectations.
  • Help plan and attend social events.
  • Organize and take inventory for equipment, ribbons, and awards, requesting new items when needed.

Other Requirements

  

  This position has set hours:


September–May

  • Coaching 3:30-6:15 pm Monday-Thursday
  • Office hours 1 day per week ~2 hours

June–August

  • Coaching 3:00-5:45 pm Monday-Friday
  • Swim Meets ~1:00 pm-7:00 pm on Thursdays
  • WBSL Championships – one Saturday per year, end of July
  • Office hours 2 days per week ~2 hours

Additional Requirements

  • Reliable transportation + ability to travel to away meets
  • USA Swimming Coaching Membership (including completion of SafeSport Training) (within 60 days of hire)
  • Safety Training for Swim Coaches (within 60 days of hire)
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • 2+ years of experience coaching youth swim teams


Salary Information

$29.00 - $39.00 Hourly Wage
