Incumbents can work up to 1040 hours per year.&nbsp; The Camp Caretaker is independently responsible for the completion of assignments in general maintenance work.&nbsp; This class is distinguished from Assistant Camp Caretaker in that the Camp&nbsp;Caretaker level is responsible for supervising subordinate staff in addition to personally performing general maintenance work.<br><br><strong>SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED</strong><br>General supervision is provided by the Camp Sacramento Supervisor. &nbsp;The Camp Caretaker supervises lower level personnel.
<strong>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</strong><br><em>The following duties are typical for this classification.  Incumbents may not perform all the listed duties and/or may be required to perform related duties as needed.</em><ul> <li> Supervise, train, evaluate, plan, schedule, and assign work to subordinate staff. </li><li>Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain minor issues with camp facilities, buildings, vehicles, and equipment, including furnaces, motor generators, water heaters, electrical systems, plumbing pipes, leaks, toilets, sinks, faucets, hoses, and equipment. </li><li>Maintain supplies, materials, tools, and equipment necessary for camp maintenance; submit requisitions for necessary supplies and tools. </li><li>Lead staff and participate in winterizing buildings, equipment, and material; daily maintenance of restroom facilities, general use buildings, and camp grounds. </li><li>Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and diagrams. </li><li>Pick up all refuse in camp area daily. </li><li>Operate a variety of hand and power tools. </li><li>Operate a motor vehicle safely.</li></ul><ul> <li>Operate computer and computer software. </li><li>Follow staff policies and procedures. </li><li>May assist in campground educational activities and special events/activities</li></ul><p><br><strong>QUALIFICATIONS</strong></p><strong>Knowledge of:</strong><ul> <li>Principles and practices of supervising and training. </li><li>General building maintenance and repair, including heating, plumbing, and electrical systems. </li><li>Standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used to perform minor carpentry, electrical, heating, and plumbing maintenance and repair work. </li><li>Occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work. </li><li>Safe and efficient work practices.</li></ul><strong><strong>Ability to:</strong></strong><ul> <li>Supervise, assign, train, and evaluate employees. </li><li>Review and evaluate the work of employees. </li><li>Perform a variety of skilled work in building maintenance and repair. </li><li>Diagnose and repair minor heating, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical issues. </li><li>Perform work assignments under minimal supervision. </li><li>Use a variety of hand and power tools competently and safely. </li><li>Perform manual labor for extended periods of time. </li><li>Recognize and deal with hazards encountered in the course of work. </li><li>Speak, read, and write English at a level necessary for effective performance. </li><li>Understand and carry out oral and written instructions. </li><li>Read and interpret blueprints and sketches. </li><li>Read charts and graphs for water treatment tests. </li><li>Walk at an incline to inspect water lines. </li><li>Operate a motor vehicle safely. </li><li>Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, staff, and the public.</li></ul>
<strong>Education:</strong><br>None required.<br><br><strong>Experience:</strong><br>Six (6) months of experience performing maintenance and custodial work in a camp, recreation, school, or hospitality setting or facility.<br> <br><strong>License or Certificate:</strong><br>Possession of a Water Distribution Operator Grade II or higher certificate issued by the State of California is desirable.<br> <br><strong>SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS</strong><br><strong>Age:</strong><br>Must be at least 18 years old by time of appointment.<br><br><strong>Assessments:</strong><br>If considered for appointment, candidates must:<ul><li>Pass a physical exam and a criminal background check.</li><li>Pass a tuberculosis screening test.</li></ul> <br><strong>Training:</strong><ul><li>Successful candidates must participate in a mandatory staff training that is typically conducted in late May or early June of each year.</li><li>This position is designated as a Mandatory Reporter; completion of Mandatory Report training is required within two weeks of appointment.</li></ul> <br><strong>Certifications:</strong><br>A Forklift operator certificate or license is desirable.<br><br><strong>Transportation:</strong><br>Successful candidates must provide their own transportation to the Camp Sacramento site.<br> <br><strong>PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:</strong><br><em>The conditions herein are typically required of an incumbent to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.</em><br> <br><strong>Physical Requirements</strong><br>Must possess strength, stamina, and mobility to perform physical work; frequent walking; operate a motor vehicle and various hand and power tools; vision to read fine print; Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb to perform work and inspect sites. Employees may be exposed to cold weather conditions.<br> <br><strong>Working Conditions</strong><br>Camp Sacramento is situated in the El Dorado National Forest located in Twin Bridges, California.  Employees are required to reside at Camp Sacramento May to August, with the possibility to extend through September.  Employees in this position are required to work weekend and night shifts.<br>
