Employment Type: Part Time - Tuesday (8:00am - 1:00pm), Wednesday (8:00am - 1:00pm), Thursday (8:30am - 4:30pm)
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Pay Rate: $16.90/hour


Santa Sophia Preschool is seeking a qualified, experienced and passionate preschool aide who is deeply committed to developing Christ-centered, forward-thinking leaders to serve our future Church and our world. The Preschool Aide assists teachers with classroom preparation, supervision of students, and daily classroom support to ensure a safe, nurturing, and faith-filled learning environment.


Preschool Aide Responsibilities

  • Prepare materials and supplies for daily classroom activities and set up equipment inside the classroom and on the playground.
  • Assist with weekly naptime setup, including preparing mats and organizing bedding bags.
  • Support general housekeeping tasks to maintain a safe and clean classroom environment (disinfecting high-touch areas, cleaning sinks/counters/tabletops, sweeping, etc.).
  • Supervise students during lunch, snack, recess, playground time, and transitions (including lining up and walking to playground areas).
  • Assist students who have difficulty resting during naptime.
  • Recognize student needs and provide appropriate support and solutions.
  • Follow classroom procedures and rules set by lead teachers and/or the director.
  • Supervise bathrooms as needed, including assisting children who have bathroom accidents.
  • Comply with California state and county licensing regulations.
  • Attend required professional development trainings, school functions, and staff meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher and/or director to ensure a smooth and effective preschool program. 
Requirements:


Religious Qualifications

  • Active, practicing Roman Catholic (preferred)
  • Respects and understands a Catholic school philosophy
  • Willingness to participate in and model Christian values within the school environment. 

Professional Qualifications

  • Proof of high school diploma or GED
  • Proof of completion of 12 or more Early Childhood Education (ECE) Units 
  • Clear criminal background check (a clear Livescan for Community Care Licensing is a condition of employment)
  • Understanding of early childhood development and learning stages.
  • Ability to follow directions and classroom procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to solve problems and respond calmly in stressful situations.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks based on the needs of children and teachers.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, child-centered environment. 

Requirements upon hire

  • CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Proof of immunizations
  • Proof of completed Mandated Reporter training for Child Care Providers
  • Cleared TB test to work in Licensed Child Care Facility

Physical Requirements

To successfully meet the needs of the students in his/her care, the aide must:

  • Stand for extended periods throughout the day.
  • Frequently hold and demonstrate materials while instructing or assisting.
  • Sit occasionally for planning or documentation.
  • Walk and maneuver in tight classroom spaces and on uneven playground surfaces.
  • Kneel, squat, stoop, or bend to assist children.
  • Reach at, below, and above shoulder height; occasional trunk or neck rotation may be required.
  • Lift and carry items up to 25 pounds (such as classroom materials or furniture).
  • Remain mobile throughout the classroom, playground, and school facility for meetings, trainings, and school events. 

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to be inside the classroom. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the classroom and preschool environment, as well as maneuver throughout the school facility to attend meetings, trainings, and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend trainings or workshops.
