GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Emergency Medical Responder’s (EMR) primary responsibility is to answer emergency calls,    providing efficient and immediate care to ill and injured residents.  The EMR is also responsible for carrying out life safety, security, and concierge responsibilities.

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Emergency Response:
  • Using a limited amount of equipment, the EMR will render emergency medical care based on assessment findings.  Care may include:
    1. Opening and maintaining an airway
    2. Ventilating patients
    3. Administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation
    4. Administering Oxygen
    5. Providing emergency medical care for simple and multiple system trauma , such as:
      • Controlling hemorrhage
      • Bandaging wounds
      • Manually stabilizing injured extremities
    6. Addressing general medical complaints, altered mental status, seizures, environmental emergencies, behavioral emergencies, and psychological crises.
  • Prior to rendering patient care, identify the mechanism of injury or nature of illness,  the total number of patients, and request additional help,  if necessary. 
  • Determine when additional support is needed and act accordingly.  This includes:
    1. Identifying assessment findings that may require communicating with the on-call provider for guidance.
    2. Providing ongoing assessment of the resident and administering additional care while awaiting additional   EMS resources.
    3. Verbally reporting observations and emergency medical care rendered to the responding EMS unit.
    4. Assessing the extent of injury and rendering care while awaiting EMS  providers. 
    5. Contacting other EMR and or Security for additional help when necessary.
    6. Performing basic triage when required.
  • Conduct post-call activities, including:
    1. Complete an Event Report
    2. Restock and replace used supplies
    3. Clean and   disinfect all equipment following    appropriate disinfecting procedures
    4. Carefully checks all equipment to ensure it is in working order the available for the next response
  • Function within the scope of care as defined by state, regional and local regulatory agencies;
  • Comply with regulations on the handling of the deceased, protection of property, and evidence at the scene, while awaiting additional EMS resources.

2. Other Responsibilities

  • Perform security sweeps to ensure secure access points remain locked.
  • Perform Fire Life Safety Rounds.
  • Assist with emergency evacuation drills and training.
  • Answer Concierge desk phones in a courteous and professional manner.

3. Other Duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Ability to function in uncommon situations while remaining calm;
  2. Able to apply basic knowledge  of  stress response and methods to ensure personal well‐being;
  3. Ability to apply principles of body substance isolation;
  4. Ability to apply basic medical‐legal principles as they pertain the to the EMR role;
  5. Excellent customer service skills
  6. Ability to work well with many people and adapt to diverse situations
  7. Ability to maintain a professional work environment 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Frequent standing, stooping, bending, stretching, and squatting; must be able to stoop, bend, stretch, squat, and stand.
