This position is located in Carson City, Nevada. 

Key Responsibilities:

Under general supervision, you will have daily reference shifts, complete research requests, maintain our library's website, maintain our Acquisitions module, and craft and update engaging research guides. You'll have the opportunity to contribute to the overall success of the library by taking on various duties that align with your skills and interests.

Example of Duties: 

  • Provide advanced, specialized reference and research services to the Appellate and District Courts, and general legal reference to self-represented litigants through scheduled shifts on the Reference Desk;
  • Create and update research LibGuides based on existing specialized knowledge for library users with minimal guidance by a senior librarian;
  • Collect and organize quantitative and qualitative data necessary for strategic planning and annual reporting requirements related to Acquisitions. 
  • Respond to in-library, phone, mail and live-chat reference questions from the court, attorneys, state employees, and the general public.
  • Conduct complete reference interviews to determine appropriate print and electronic resources to meet user requests.
  • Perform both immediate reference and in-depth research searches; refers users to other resources as appropriate.
  • Conduct online legal research using resources including, but not limited to: Bloomberg, HeinOnline, LexisNexis, VitalLaw, and Westlaw.
  • Direct users to print and electronic resources and assist users as necessary. 
  • Provides instruction and guidance for use of library catalog, legal databases, legal research methodology and procedures.
  • Maintain the law library’s website.
  • Maintain the Law Library’s print and digital collection accounts using the acquisitions module in Koha.
  • Participate in developing and revising the Law Library’s long-range plan.
  • Monitor appropriate list-servs and read professional publications; contribute to professional listservs and publications. 
  • Engage in professional development activities to remain abreast of current trends in librarianship and emerging technologies used in libraries, including attending professional conferences. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications: 

  • MLS or MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited program, or current enrollment and substantial completion of coursework in an academic program leading to a master’s degree in a program accredited by the ALA or an equivalent, accredited association.
  • Strong reference and research skills developed over several years working in a law library. 
  • Technologically savvy with the ability to maintain and update a library website. 
  • Creative mindset for developing and revising LibGuides. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 

 

Preferred Skills: 

  • Familiarity with the Nevada judiciary, legislature, and executive branches.
  • Experience using legal research platforms – Lexis and Westlaw.
  • Familiarity working with ebooks and digital resources and experience using legal database/ebook platforms such as LexisNexis Overdrive, HeinOnline, Vital Law, etc. 
  • Experience using SpringShare (LibGuides, LibCal, LibAnswers, and LibStaffer).
  • Familiarity of HTML formatting and experience with website content management systems.
  • Experience with graphics programs (Canva, Photoshop, GIMP, MS Publisher, etc.).
