Description:

The Grain Elevator Operator 2 or 3 is responsible for safely and efficiently handling grain operations, including receiving, storage, conditioning, shipment, and have the ability to accurately weigh, grade and operate the scale. This position provides customer service to producers and drivers while maintaining grain quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Requirements:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Includes the following and other duties may be assigned) 

  • Receive, unload, load, and transfer grain from trucks and railcars
  • Operate elevator equipment including conveyors, legs, dryers, and aeration systems
  • Monitor grain quality, moisture, and temperature
  • Assist with grain inventory control and bin management
  • Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and facility housekeeping
  • Troubleshoot operational and equipment issues
  • Follow all company, OSHA, and safety procedures
  • Weigh incoming and outgoing grain using certified scales
  • Sample and grade grain according to company and regulatory standards
  • Prepare scale tickets, receipts, and required documentation
  • Enter data into grain accounting and inventory systems
  • Verify contracts, ownership, and delivery information
  • Maintain a clean and organized house
  • Employees are required to perform all other duties as assigned by management.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

This job position has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related accounting experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. This position requires excellent computer operation skills. Willing to seek out and attend additional continuing education, seminars, classes or other job related education requirements or opportunities. 


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Class C Driver’s License  


LANGUAGE SKILLS: 

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. 


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: 

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. 


REASONING ABILITY: 

The ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Able to deal with problems with several concrete variables in standard situations. Must be able to think quickly and perform a mental assessment of workplace hazards, take appropriate precautions, and choose appropriate PPE as dictated by need, regulation, and labeling. 


PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; taste or smell; stand; walk; sit and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and /or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move over 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Employees must understand and implement all related safety policies, procedures and programs for prevention and protection while performing job duties in various work environments. 


WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or dusty airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Employees must understand and implement all related safety policies, procedures and programs for prevention and protection while performing job duties in various work environments. Have the ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays during peak seasons.
