NOTE: This is a full-time, onsite position. The role will be based at our Chicago, IL facility through December 2025, after which the position will relocate to Northbrook, IL.
Position Summary
This position makes and repairs various types of fixtures, dies, and assembly equipment used in the production of instruments. Fabricates and builds prototypes and models as needed.

Duties
- Set up and operate manual, CNC, and EDM machinery for cutting, shaping and drill (drill press, milling machines, engine lathes, and surface grinders, for example) safely and correctly.
- Use toolroom machines to make or repair various types of dies, fixtures, and assembly equipment, as specified by drawing or verbal instructions from management.
- Design jigs, fixtures, and templates for efficient tool room production.
- Test tools/dies for specifications, adjusting as needed
- Build prototypes and models of various types (i.e., new fixtures, dies, assembly equipment) as specified by drawings and/or verbal instructions from Team Leader or Manufacturing Engineer.
- Use appropriate measuring tools (i.e., micrometers, veneer calipers, indicators, etc.) to ensure that work is done to specifications given.
- Follow all safety procedures for the toolroom as well as general plant safety procedures.
- May occasionally assist in troubleshooting mechanical problems, including hydraulic and pneumatic on machines.
- Complete other responsibilities as assigned.
Education Degree

Required Experience
- At least 5 years’ experience in toolroom setting, using all types of toolroom machinery. (Drill press, milling machines, engine lathe, surface grinders). Experience to include both setup and operation of equipment
- Should have own tools (i.e., measuring tools, mechanical tools)
- Formal apprenticeship training. Minimum of high school diploma (or equivalent)
- Knowledge of all types of measuring tools used in toolroom
- ACAD or SolidWorks a plus
- Must be able to read and interpret blueprints/drawings used in toolroom operations
