REMCAN is currently looking for a full-time Red Seal Journeyman Heavy Duty Shop Mechanic based out of our Spruce Grove location in Alberta.

The primary role of the Heavy Duty Mechanic is to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair our diverse fleet of rail and construction equipment. The position reports directly to the Superintendent of the Mechanical Division.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Mentor apprentices assigned to location
  • Complete daily safety briefings
  • Complete daily reports
  • Perform preventative maintenance on various equipment
  • Diagnose and repair all types of equipment
  • Complete work orders and equipment logbooks accurately
  • Source parts and supplies when necessary
  • Work individually as well as in a team environment
  • Work within our safety guidelines
  • Communicate information/issues with shop Foreman
  • Work in a 100% rule compliance safe working environment

 Qualifications:

  • Red Seal Journeyman in Heavy Duty Mechanics or Commercial Transport
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as Heavy Duty Mechanic (as Apprentice or Journeyman)
  • Experience with Railway Equipment an asset
  • Extensive experience with hydraulic and electrical troubleshooting and repairs
  • Open to learn and repair all types of equipment
  • Willingness to travel and work in remote locations when necessary
  • Able to pass pre-employment medical and drug screening
  • Able to demonstrate an ability to work unsupervised as well as in teams
  • Must hold a Class 5 License with a clean Driver’s abstract
  • Class 3 license w/ air would be an asset
