General Job Description:
The Employment Support Professional provides one-on-one, community-based support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, with a primary focus on employment. This role supports people in finding, learning, and keeping jobs that match their interests, strengths, and goals. The position involves job development, job coaching, relationship-building in the workplace, and coordination with families, employers, and service partners.
General Qualifications:
- At least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Associates or Bachelor Degree in Human Services or related field/one year of experience working with people with disabilities and their families preferred
- ACRE certification preferred
- Possession of a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and proof of valid insurance and car registration
- Ability to successfully pass criminal background checks
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized employment support using a person-centered approach that respects choice, dignity, and independence.
- Assist individuals with identifying employment goals and taking steps toward meaningful, paid work in the community.
- Conduct community mapping to identify employers, businesses, and resources that support employment opportunities.
- Participate in job development activities, including employer outreach and matching individuals to jobs aligned with their skills and interests.
- Provide on-site job coaching to support task learning, workplace routines, problem-solving, and independence.
- Support individuals in building positive working relationships with coworkers and supervisors and developing natural supports on the job.
- Implement job retention strategies, including fading support over time, so individuals rely more on workplace supports rather than staff.
- Communicate regularly with individuals, families or guardians, employers, supervisors, and internal team members.
- Maintain timely, accurate documentation of services in accordance with agency policies and funding requirements.
- Manage time effectively, prioritize responsibilities, and meet program expectations.
- Complete required trainings related to employment supports, documentation, and service delivery.
- Coordinate with the Rhode Island Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities, and Hospitals and the Office of Rehabilitation Services to support service planning, compliance, and access to resources.
- Provide training to staff related to employment support practices when assigned.
- Provide employment-related instruction or classes to individuals to support job readiness and skill development.
- Complete other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Director based on program needs.
