College Application Essay Writing Teacher (Online) - Summer 2026

About the Role:

Summer at Lakeside is currently recruiting for a College Application Essay Writing teacher to teach in our Summer School program. Intended for rising seniors who want to devote a full week to the college essay writing process, this online course offers students structured and personalized support from an experienced college counselor as they brainstorm, draft, and revise their college application essay. By the end of the week, students who participate fully should have at least one solid draft of their personal essay completed. All Summer School classes (including online classes) are capped at 18 students. Summer School courses are open to students from any school, and financial aid is available.

The online class runs twice with new students enrolled for the second session. Session 1 runs July 20 - July 24, Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Session 2 runs July 27-July 31, 9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Visit our Summer School webpage to read more about this program, including descriptions of the courses offered for summer 2026.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Create an inclusive and culturally responsive curriculum

  • Create organized and engaging lesson plans

  • Work with a mentor from the Lakeside College Counseling department to align this curriculum with that department’s expectations and advice 

  • Supervise and instruct a diverse group of students that have different educational backgrounds and experiences

  • Provide individualized feedback and support to students throughout the college essay brainstorming and revision process

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the cultural lenses they bring to interactions. The candidate will understand different perspectives; interact respectfully with cultures other than their own; and cultivate meaningful relationships with people that have different cultural frameworks.

  • Demonstrated equity and inclusion mindset; candidates should be aware of their own identity and biases; candidate actively works to create an inclusive classroom environment

  • College counseling experience or experience working in a selective college admissions office

  • Demonstrated understanding of the core elements of a strong common application essay


Compensation and Benefits:
The stipend for this position is $1,750. The course may only run if enough students register. Enrollment will remain open until June 1. If the number of students enrolled is too small to run by June 1, or if the course is canceled for any reason, the stipend will not be paid. Summer at Lakeside also offers free camp for children (grades 3–8) of all summer employees for the weeks when they are working for the summer program. Employees must register their children via the Summer at Lakeside webpage.
