Who You Are
Kriya’s summer intern will be a 40-hour/week position onsite in our RTP office. Kriya’s summer intern will have an individual project and the opportunity to develop technical, engineering and/or scientific expertise. Through our summer internship, intern students develop a professional network, learn how to work in a scientific and engineering environment, build hands-on laboratory skills, and deliver presentations showcasing their work.
The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) & Sustainability Intern, for Kriya will provide EHS support by helping to ensure a safe and compliant work environment across Kriya’s facilities. This position provides an excellent opportunity to gains hands-on experience in a fast-paced biopharmaceutical setting while contributing to meaningful EHS initiatives.
How You Contribute
- Assist in the review, and maintenance of Kriya’s EHS programs, policies, and procedures.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with waste management per regulatory requirements.
- Support compliance with Kriya’s wastewater permit for sampling, documentation, and monthly flow meter reports to the County.
- Collaborate on initiatives to promote workplace safety and sustainability, such as waste reduction and energy efficiency programs.
- Participate in the Kriya Safety Committee, and Sustainability Sub-Committees.
- Assist in performing lab, manufacturing, and warehouse safety inspections and reports with corrective actions.
- Assist with emergency preparedness planning, including drills and response procedures.
- Assist in EHS training for onboarding and annual refreshers.
- Contribute to the completion of EHS project tasks and milestones.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the EHS team’s goals.
What You Bring to the Team
Education & Experience
- Currently pursuing an Associates, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety practices and hazardous materials management is a plus.
- Familiarity with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory standards.
- Prior experience or coursework in EHS or related disciplines.
Competencies
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and eager to learn.
Working Conditions
- Primarily an office setting
- May involve standing and sitting for extended periods.
- Some lifting of equipment or materials may be required.
- Work may involve exposure to chemicals or biological materials; proper handling and disposal procedures must be followed.
- Ability to climb steps/ladders.
