Position Title:                     Substitute Paraprofessional  

Status:                                 Non-Exempt, Part-Time                                       

Reports To:                        Teacher (direct supervision) and Assistant Principals/Executive Director


Summary:

Assists teacher(s) in implementing educational programs.  Observes school policies and procedures concerning student activities at all times both within the school environment and at the community sites.

                               

Qualifications for Position:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience working with children, preferably in a learning environment.
  • Approved Criminal History Review from NJ Dept. of Ed. Office of Criminal History Review.  
  • Ability to lift and position students alone and with another person as required.  
  • Lifting is performed from various levels and weight can vary up to 70 pounds.


Essential Duties/Responsibilities of the Position:  

  • Assists teachers in implementing student activities in school environment.  Maintains open communication with teacher; accepts and provides appropriate feedback.
  • Prepares student work areas; helps to maintain standards for cleanliness and hygiene; ensures that students can enter and move around school sites safely.
  • Reinforces instruction in small/large groups or on a one-to-one basis.
  • Encourages educational achievements, positive behavior and independence.
  • Uses only techniques for behavior management and communication with students that have been approved by the Services.
  • Responds appropriately to interruptions, emergencies, and various safety and evacuation.
  • Observe agency and departmental policies and procedures.  Meets and maintains agency standards for student behavior management, child abuse and neglect, infection control, safety, emergency procedures, attendance, moral and professional conduct.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
