The Role:

We are looking for a highly qualified specialist to provide instruction in Performing Arts who specializes in 1 or more of the following areas: 

  • Drama (Acting, Theater, Stage Production) 

  • Special Effects Activities (Prosthetic make-up, scene effects etc.)


The Hours and Location:

Monday 3-6 pm and Wednesday 1-6 pm 

Clinton Hill Middle School, 1100 Fulton St, Brooklyn, NY 11238


Responsibilities

  • Supervise a group of up to 15 participants, facilitate select activities and maintain health and well-being of all children enrolled.

  • Explain techniques and safety procedures for youth participants and demonstrate appropriate use of materials and equipment.

  • Establish clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to the students

  • Assist with program set-up and clean up.

  • Assist with drills to practice site-evacuation/emergency procedures and capable of implementing such procedures.

  • Oversee progressive development of student skills leading to a final project.

  • Take attendance.

  • Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.

  • Greet new arrivals to activities, introducing them to other students, explaining rules, and encouraging participation. 

  • Evaluate activity to determine if they are producing desired results and adapt accordingly.

  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests. 

  • Encourage positive character development in all youth.

  • Perform additional duties and projects assigned at the discretion of the After-School Program Director. 

Qualifications

  • Experience in one or more Performing Arts discipline 

  • High school diploma

  • Prior experience working with youth, preferably in a classroom or after-school setting

  • Strong classroom management and communication skills

  • Ability to adapt lessons for diverse learners and age groups

  • Passion for arts education and youth development

  • Background check and relevant clearances required

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required

  • Show ability to accept supervision and feedback

  • Demonstrate ability to follow and execute schedules and activity plans.

Salary: $25 - $35 per hour
