Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and safety-conscious Locate Technician to join our team in Wichita, KS. The Locate Technician will be responsible for identifying and marking underground utility lines to ensure safe excavation and construction activities. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Locate and mark underground utilities such as gas, water, electric, and telecommunications lines using specialized equipment.
• Respond to locate requests in a timely manner and ensure accurate marking according to industry standards and regulations.
• Communicate effectively with contractors, utility companies, and other stakeholders to coordinate locate activities.
• Maintain detailed records of locate activities, including maps, reports, and documentation.
• Follow all safety protocols and comply with local, state, and federal regulations related to underground utility locating.
• Operate and maintain locating equipment and tools in good working condition.
• Work outdoors in various weather conditions and navigate different types of terrain.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in utility locating, construction, or related field preferred.
• Knowledge of underground utility systems and industry standards (e.g., APWA Uniform Color Code).
• Ability to read maps, blueprints, and technical drawings.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Work Environment

This position involves working outdoors in various weather conditions and may require physical activity such as walking, bending, and lifting. Safety is a top priority, and all employees are expected to adhere to safety guidelines and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
