Job Description

This role provides strategic direction, operational oversight, and technical leadership for all audit-related activities.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

Audit Leadership & Operations

  • Lead and manage HdL’s audit division, including planning, execution, and delivery of audits
  • Establish standardized audit methodologies, procedures, and documentation practices
  • Ensure audits are accurate, defensible, timely, and compliant with applicable laws and regulations
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex or high-risk audit matters

 

Team Development & Management

  • Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate audit staff
  • Foster professional development and knowledge growth within the audit team
  • Assign workloads, manage capacity, and ensure efficient resource utilization
  • Promote consistency and quality across all audit staff

 

Client & Stakeholder Support

  • Act as a subject-matter expert for municipal clients and internal leadership
  • Support client communications related to audit findings, methodologies, and resolutions
  • Assist in resolving disputes or challenges related to audit determinations

 

Strategic & Organizational Support

  • Reduce dependency on executive leadership for day-to-day audit oversight
  • Identify opportunities to improve audit processes, efficiency, and scalability
  • Support long-term growth of HDL’s audit services and organizational objectives

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Knowledge of financial, accounting, and auditing principles and practices
  • Patient, calm, professional, and friendly demeanor
  • Able to work in growing, changing environment, and have an impact on organizational change
  • Proficient in MS Office, accounting systems, and data entry in an accounting environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Education and Experience

  • BS degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field preferred
  • At least 2 years’ experience in accounting or similar industry
  • A combination of education and experience will be considered

 

Compensation

The starting base salary for this Fresno position is expected to be between $84,500 to $110,000 annually. Actual salary will be determined based on skills, experience (to the extent relevant) and other job-related factors, consistent with applicable law.
