We are seeking a dedicated Dining Service Coordinator / Cook who understands that nutrition, structure, and hospitality play a meaningful role in recovery. This role supports both the clinical mission and daily operations by preparing nutritious meals in a safe, organized, and welcoming environment.

Position Summary

The Dining Service Coordinator / Cook is responsible for preparing and serving meals in accordance with dietary guidelines, facility standards, and regulatory requirements. This individual ensures food safety, maintains kitchen sanitation, and contributes to a respectful and recovery-focused dining experience for clients.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner in alignment with dietary guidelines and client-specific needs

  • Coordinate menu planning and food ordering based on census and dietary requirements

  • Monitor and document food, refrigerator, freezer, and water temperatures daily

  • Maintain a clean, sanitary kitchen environment in compliance with health regulations

  • Manage inventory and reduce food waste through thoughtful purchasing and preparation

  • Assist with meal service, table clearing, and fostering a supportive dining atmosphere

  • Report observed changes in client behavior or physical condition to appropriate clinical staff

  • Support infection control and safety protocols within the facility

  • Perform additional food service or light housekeeping duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • West Virginia Food Handler’s Permit required (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire)

  • ServSafe Certification preferred (or willingness to obtain within 30 days)

  • Minimum one (1) year experience in institutional, healthcare, or residential food service preferred

  • Knowledge of sanitation practices and dietary accommodations strongly preferred

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs frequently and occasionally up to 50 lbs

  • Standing and walking for extended periods (up to 8 hours per shift)

  • Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and pushing/pulling of food carts

  • Ability to tolerate heat, steam, noise, and cleaning chemicals

Work Environment

  • Licensed behavioral health facility setting

  • Must follow all confidentiality, infection control, and safety protocols

  • Weekend and holiday flexibility required

  • May encounter emotionally challenging situations in a recovery environment
