About this position
The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the democratically elected National Government of the Red River Métis, also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are a distinct Indigenous Nation and People, and Canada's Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.
The MMF seeks to fill one full-time Program Facilitator position within our Languages Department located at 200 Main Street in Winnipeg, MB. Working closely with Métis Elders, Language Keepers, and language learners, the Facilitator will manage a cohort-based language learning program focused on mentorship, relationship-building, and learner success. The Facilitator will guide learners through individualized learning plans, coordinate pairings between learners and Language Keepers, and ensure participants remain engaged and progressing toward their language goals.
Job Duties/Competencies:
- Facilitate a Michif language learning cohort of approximately 20 Language Learners and Language Keepers;
- Develop detailed project plans, including timelines, milestone and deliverables and ensure adherence to these plan;
- Develop and facilitate various language programs and workshops related to language revitalization;
- Develop individualized learning plans in collaboration with Language Learners and Language Keepers;
- Coordinate regular meetings, learning sessions, and check-ins with participants;
- Act as the primary point of contact for cohort members throughout the program;
- Monitor learner progress and provide encouragement, guidance, and accountability to keep participants on track;
- Maintain accurate records of participation, progress, and outcomes;
- Prepare reports, summaries, and updates for the Michif Language Department as required;
- Track program outcomes and contribute to continuous improvement of language programming.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Post-secondary Degree or Certificate related to Education, Languages, or Program Facilitation;
- Minimum 2 years experience in program facilitation, preferably in education, language revitalization or community based settings;
- Experience developing individualized learning plans or educational pathways;
- Familiarity with post-secondary institutions and Indigenous Language Programming in Manitoba;
- Strong organizational, interpersonal and time management skills;
- Acceptable Criminal Records Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search and Adult Abuse Registry Check;
- Experience working for a not-for-profit organization and Indigenous community is an asset;
- Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, and MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
- Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle is an asset.
