Determined to end Veteran suicide, K9s For Warriors is the leading nonprofit organization providing Service Dogs to military Veterans nationwide suffering from PTSD, traumatic brain injury, and/or military sexual trauma — at no financial cost to the Veteran. Founded in 2011 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, K9s For Warriors is committed to saving lives at both ends of the leash by primarily rescuing dogs and pairing them with Veterans in need. In order to continue the great work we’re doing, we’re looking to add a K9 Adoptions Specialist to our amazing team! 

Basic Function

Under the general direction and supervision of the K9 Procurement & Placement Assistant Managers, the K9 Adoption Specialist is responsible for the facilitation, coordination, and execution of the adoption and foster process for career-changed dogs and dogs in training in our program. The K9 Adoption Specialist is also responsible for the maintenance of all associated records, processes, and documentation. 

 

Essential Functions and Duties 

Plan, schedule, and facilitate both on-campus and off-campus adoption/foster events Work with the K9 P&P Coordinator to promote adoptable canines across social media platformsProvide information on adoptable canines to K9s staff and the public through email and social media platformsEnsure all appropriate documentation is maintained on adoptable/foster canines including but not limited to: behavior and household needs and medical records Coordinate with the Adoption Trainer to ensure all training aspects of Career Changed dogs are in line with the adoption process.Work with Adoption Trainers on training plans and helping work dogs to maintain skills including leash walking and established behaviors set by the Adoption Trainers.Handling of dogs during meet and greetsSupporting and leading Adoption and Foster classesResponsible for partner relationships, dog assessment and readiness, transportation of dogs, dog handling, and emergency preparednessCommunicate regularly with the K9 Procurement & Placement Assistant Manager to ensure coordination of all relevant tasksSupport all other department activities which will contribute to the advancement and success of the team and the mission as identified by the supervisorAssist in other departments and campuses, primarily with the Procurement Team, as needed or when no canines are available for adoption Participate in Strategic planning process and cross-departmental projects as assignedWork independently with little or no supervision and in a professional manner at all times

Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor or managementWeekend work schedule is required

 

 

 Qualifications

H.S. diploma or equivalent Ability to understand dog body language is requiredPrevious work in related animal field is requiredValid driver’s license and ability be covered by facility driving insurance requiredGood communication skills in one on one, over phone, by email, and in group settingsMust have basic computer literacy skills and be able to handle multiple unrelated tasks simultaneously while working in a busy environment

 

Physical Demands

Ability to exert a moderate to extensive amount of physical effort, including stooping, crouching, twisting, turning, walking stairs, climbing, and lifting up to fifty (50) pounds individuallyMay be exposed to unpleasant odors, chemicals, loud noises, and inclement weather

Training will be M-F 730-430.
Regular schedule will be Sunday-Thursday

Salary Information

$18.41 - $21.15 Hourly Wage
