ROLE OF THE LIFE SKILLS PRE-VOCATIONAL INSTRUCTOR/COORDINATOR
Essential Functions
The Life Skills Pre-Vocational Instructor/Coordinator is responsible for assisting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) in achieving their highest level of independence. This role focuses on supporting individuals who are seeking employment through a person-centered approach. The Instructor/Coordinator provides structured guidance, skill development, and oversight in accordance with program service descriptions to ensure successful outcomes toward outlined employment goals.
A critical component of this position is working collaboratively with the Program Manager to ensure effective communication, regulatory compliance, and high-quality service delivery.
1. Service Delivery
- Monitor the health and safety of all individuals.
- Assist individuals in creating and documenting employment-related Implementation Plan (IP) goals.
- Monitor and document progress toward IP goals.
- Develop learning and work-related experiences that build general, non-job-specific skills leading to competitive employment.
- Present meaningful, engaging activities that support employment readiness.
- Coordinate and schedule guest speakers and community leaders to enhance work-related skills and provide real-world scenarios.
- Plan and implement activities aligned with individual program goals, enrichment, and physical activity using provided curriculum and materials.
- Administer medication (Medication Certification required).
- Attend individuals’ support plan meetings as applicable.
- Conduct daily classes that are inclusive, interactive, and engaging.
- Ensure familiarity with and implementation of individuals’ behavior plans.
- Coordinate community outings.
- Communicate behavior plan protocols to appropriate staff and document required behavior data.
- Establish and maintain supportive, professional relationships with individuals, families, and support teams.
- Provide services in compliance with defined service descriptions, core assurances, and program attachments.
- Maintain a positive, calm, and respectful program environment.
- Recognize and document physical and/or emotional changes; report changes to the Program Manager or Director within one business day.
- Assist individuals with meals, hygiene, transitions, and other support needs as required.
- Assist with daily arrival and dismissal duties.
- Report accidents, incidents, or concerns to the Program Director immediately.
2. Administration
- Complete all required documentation, including daily notes and progress summaries related to support and implementation plan goals.
- Enter Implementation Plans into the iConnect system.
- Track and ensure receipt of Support Plans for each individual.
- Generate quarterly reports using data from the Therap system.
- Submit quarterly and annual reports timely through iConnect.
- Enter daily notes into the CRN documentation system.
- Accurately record attendance in iConnect for billing purposes.
- Obtain and monitor service authorizations specific to Pre-Vocational services.
- Track service utilization against authorized units.
- Collaborate with Life Skills 3 Program Managers to coordinate schedules for individuals receiving both LSD 3 and LSD 4 services.
- Maintain ongoing communication with Waiver Support Coordinators (WSCs).
- Prepare General Event Reports (GERs) using the CRN system and submit according to APD guidelines.
3. Compliance
- Ensure documentation and submission of incident reports in accordance with APD guidelines.
- Communicate all incidents to the Program Manager.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
- Attend all required trainings as directed by the employer and required of Medicaid Waiver providers.
- Adhere to all regulatory, agency, and company policies and procedures.
4. Other Duties
- Assist individuals with boarding and exiting transportation.
- Communicate building maintenance concerns and assist in coordination of resolution.
- Maintain supply inventory and communicate needs to the Program Manager.
- Assist with social media content as assigned.
- Serve as a positive role model through professional dress, speech, and behavior.
- Ensure classroom and department areas are cleaned and sanitized according to CRN safety standards.
- Complete additional projects and duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
- Supervision of all Individuals receiving Pre-Vocational Service
- Oversight of Instructors providing Pre-Vocational Service
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Primary activities are conducted within a well-lit, climate-controlled facility.
- Occasional community outings may require outdoor travel and potential exposure to unpleasant weather.
- Ability to bend, stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time and possess the normal range of body motion.
- Ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds independently.
- Must be able to provide personal hygiene assistance to individuals requiring assistance.
- Periodic exposure to bodily fluids, and other pathogens.

Initials
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or equivalent, college course work preferred
- One year of experience in a medical, psychiatric, nursing, or child/adult care setting or direct care with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.
- One year in an instructional role, teaching, demonstrating, etc. preferably working with Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabiltiies
- Valid state driver’s license.
- Must pass Level II Background screening.
- Must pass drug screening.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Knowledge of proper transfer techniques and body mechanics to transfer clients with appropriate assistance and/or equipment (transfer board, slip sheet, Hoyer lift) as needed.
- Exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability and interest in working with persons with developmental disabilities and physical limitations.
