About this position
The Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA) is responsible for providing clinical and administrative support to ensure efficient patient care in a Rheumatology practice. This role includes direct patient interaction, assisting providers during in-office procedures, and performing a variety of front and back-office tasks to maintain smooth clinic operations.
Clinical Duties:
Greet and room patients, record vital signs, document chief complaint, update medical history, allergies, and medications in the electronic health record (EHR).
Assist providers during injection and infusion-related procedures following proper aseptic technique.
Administer medications via intramuscular (IM) and subcutaneous (SC) injection as directed by the provider.
Provide patient education on medications, treatment plans, and follow-up care as directed by the provider.
Prepare and maintain exam rooms, including stocking and cleaning between patients.
Process prescription refill requests per provider protocol and document in the EHR.
Collect and process lab specimens as needed (phlebotomy skills preferred but not required).
Administrative Duties:
Fax, scan, and upload documents into the EHR in a timely and accurate manner.
Obtain outside medical records, imaging reports, and lab results for provider review.
Ensure accurate and timely documentation in patient charts according to practice policy.
Other Responsibilities:
Maintain confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Participate in team meetings, staff training, and quality improvement initiatives.
Assist with special projects or tasks assigned by practice manager.
Requirements:Education: High School diploma or equivalent required; completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
Certification: Certified or Registered Medical Assistant (CMA or RMA) preferred.
Experience: Minimum 3 years' experience in a clinical setting, preferably in Rheumatology or a specialty clinic.
Skills:
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient in EHR systems and basic computer applications.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Language: Bilingual in English and Spanish highly preferred.
Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, and assist patients for extended periods; occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs.
